On two occasions I have managed to pass a #11 blade clean through a finger. You would have thought I'd learned my lesson after the first time. But Nooooooooo!

Boy when I started this post, i didn't realize how uh......klutzy we were. If we aren't cutting our fingers off we're super glue our selves to ,uh, ourselves. My God wolf Leader you take the cake. Definately a purple heart or something. :-)

Same thing as Faust,
Flipped over an old paint cap I had a big puddle of gel-type superglue onto the leg of a pair of work pants.
Like an Idiot I scrapped at it with a fingernail, thereby forcing the glue into and through the fabric.

I did not think about it too much, other than that I had ruined a pair of work pants... until I went to take them off..

still have a quarter sized scar on the top of my thigh..

no real cuts from modeling.. almost cut off an index finger with a can of corned beef once, but that's another story.

Merkava8,
I just want to thank you for this posting. But as for the fellow modelers, Klutzy you say na I don't think so. We are very focused people in our hobby and sometimes being this focused our minds tend to, oh how do you say this, maybe skip a beat mentally and that is why we do the things we do.

Wolf-Leader
I was using a dremel circular saw this morning and was thinking about you. I then squeezed a bit harder on the dremel and crossed my legs. :-)

When I was 15 I screwed up un the wing of the Monogram B-36 Peacemaker and I was trying to cut it apart, but it wouldn't come apart very easy. I was on the floor sitting crosslegged with the wing standing up, and it was a big wing, and was cutting down through the seam. It was so hard that I put a lot of force into it. When it suddenly broke free, the force I was using drove the x-acto deep into my lower shin. Almost hit the bone. 14 stiches.

Wolf, after reading your story, I started about how to equip my dremel with a deadman switch, but I decided that leaving the tool in the drill stand/holder would work just as well... but I have got to remember to wear my eye protectors when I'm using it, and not get up close and personal with the motor running... and oh yeah, i have a few xacto scars from my misspent youth #:-)

The worst injury that I have ever recieved is a cut finger.
After reading your stories I thought I would urinate in my pants.

I am so nervous that I am reluctant to pick up a knife or a Dremel now.
Stay safe,

Mine happened when I was a beginning modeler.
I was cutting a board for a dio base...I decided to do it in the living room while I watched TV. Using a handsaw (I was a teenage modeler without my current assortment of tools), I propped my work up on a hassock, and proceeded to saw away.
Distracted, I completed the cut and continued on into my knee (which was "Clamping" the work to the stool)
Cut so deep, it DIDN"T BLEED!!! Probably needed stitches, but how was I gonna explain that one?)

When I was about 18, I was cutting into a large piece of resin with my X-acto. It was very hard to cut, so I held it in my hand to have a better grip and put force on the knife with the other. Of course, the knife shot away and dissapeared (full blade and part of the handle) into my left thigh. It cut straight through my jeans, and it almost didn't bleed. I went to the doctor and the wound seemed to be almost 5 cm deep (2 inches). The wound healed fine after stitching, the jeans was destroyed beyond repair . All that's left is a nice battle scar. It still shows, 24 years later.

But the purple heart goes to Wolf-Leader. I can imagine the scene. Your working table must have looked like the inside of the car in Pulp Fiction. (Didn't they call in the Wolf to solve that ? That must have been Wolf-Leader ! No wonder, after the Dremel massacre he has enough experience to start clearing up slaughter scenes for a living !

My worst injury was quite a few years ago ,I was building a kit of the starship Enterprise(never forget that one ...never finished it either)I was gluing the saucer section together with crazy glue ...I put glue all the way around it and began to put the two pieces together ...I heard a pop as the pieces went together and felt something in my eye ...crazy glue stings in your eye ...but it didn't stop me from finishing my job ...I'm still gluing the two pieces together and I hear another pop as the pieces come together...guess what ...more crazy glue in the same eye....this time I dropped everything as I could feel my eye being stuck together ...I got my eye open (thank god) but it was burning bad ...I when upstairs and asked my dad if he wouldn't mind driving my to the hospital...After a week of having a bandage over my eye and having to go in everyday to have my eye washed out ,I still couldn't see a thing out of it ..The doctor couldn't figure out why I couldn't see ..He said I only had little spots of glue on my eye ....So he sent me to an eye specialist ....He said that the doctor was an idiot and what he had thought were spots of glue was really tiny spots of my eye and the rest was covered with glue ....I don't know it you guys know it but to sit in a chair and watch a doctor scrape off glue from your eye with a scalpel not very pleasant ...but I did see fine after that ..Almost fainted getting out of the chair..sorry for the long winded story ...

my airbrush had a clog in it in the air head. Well I fired the pressure up really high, and ran the brush against my cheek to feel for air (fishing trick, rub line against your face to see if it's frayed, facial skin is more sensative), nothing. So I poke a wire in and out and try the air pressure against the face again. While I'm doing this occurs to me "I wonder if anyone hurt themselves with an airbrush", then bam. A piece of crusted old paint smacked into my face at 100 psi from 2 inches away. It didn't hurt so much but I did bleed, I've cut myself with x-actos but this seemed to be more a stupidity injury.

Ok here it is, tipped over what I thought was a small container of water, so I picked it up..........then went on working. Ended up being slo-zap needless to say I super glued the top of a resin tank hull to the palm of my hand.
Not a small piece..the whole top. Many hours later and a new scalpel blade I was able to get it off... Now I make sure I have plenty of No- Stik around.

I've won my battles with #11 and his friends. However, when you must use the CA , never ever scratch an itch on your eyelid! You will make a great conversation piece at the emergency room.

Other than cutting my fingers with a knife the having them stabed with the plastic trees this would be my worst.

I had a square bottle of Testors paint. Well the paint cap was stuck on becase the paint glued it to the bottle. Well I could of ran it under some hot water but I didnt feel like it, I should of. I took a small vice and applied some pressure to the cap, and turned it a little. Well I took of the vice and started to twist off the cap. What I didnt see were some cracks in the bottle going down the side. When I turned the cap came off and some did the whole top of the bottle. When that happened my index finger slid over the broken glass and got cut open. I dono if it needed stiches or not but it did bleed for a while. And left a pretty good scare.
