Those little Polish Tankettes that came out a few years ago. I tried, gave up, gave it away in pieces. Don't recall the Mfr. of those kits, some Eastern European start-up... Worst crap I've ever seen.

I have one of those. Assembled the body no prob. Started detaching the tracks...the attachment points were twice the size of the links! Imppossible to remove. Really too bad since there were a lot of interesting subjects in that line.

the worst thing I ever bought was probably the white scout car from Zvezda
I never had a kit where the moulding was this bad where so much parts wouldn`t fit
It looked really like poo-poo.
after three days of working on the terror I went raving mad
looked for a hammer and couldn`t find one so I grabbed up the kit and with all the power I had I threw the car in thousand pieces against the wall of my workplace
I jumped on the biggest piece and started to chew... on............................it
ehmmmm
you have heard enough for now

I guess by the sounds of things us newer guys ( Ahem... younger) to the hobby missed out on all these gems. I guess most of the kits that ended up as top or bottom shelf displays are more a result of my abilities than the kit. It does no harm to have to do a little extra sometime to produce a nice end result, it develops skills that otherwise would not be needed and these skills in turn mean better results in the future.

I recently picked up a few 1/72 Zhengdefu aircraft kits recently...I won't be putting them together. They should rename the company to Zheng Doo Doo. Because they look like
S@#$.
I also picked up a new release of a Hobbycraft 1/72 F-16C/D, which further convinced me to never but another Hobbycraft product. I have not had good luck with any of their products.
The absolute worst model I ever got and waisted so much time on is an S-mars 1/350 Arleigh Burke destroyer.

I laugh when I see people on E-bay purchasing them for $40+. One seller had the audacity to list one with a but it now for $79. I paid $15 and got ripped off. I should go put it out in the sun one summer to see if it will melt into a blob of plastic for scraps to get some use out of it.

(I borrowed that last line from my brother when he was describing the Trumpeter 1/500 Nimitz class carriers).

Oh That's ReaaaaaaaL EASY.. And I used to think that the Academy Tiger Tank with interior detail, fit the bill BUT... That Bobby Prize now Goes to the Tamiya Hummer Model with a M242 Bush Master. Not only was I TOTALLY appaled with the lack of proper alighnment and fit BUT it was also cheaply desighned and WAY TOO Small for my liking. In fact it also is sitting off to the side unfinished. AND WIll NEVER EVER see it's place in the Ranks of my TEAM BRAVO Unit. Too Bad!! But then I have already picked it's replacement.. TAMIYA'S M2A2. At least I am confident about that kit. In fact I will be getting two of the M2A2's
as part of TEAM BRAVO's Recon - Security Unit.. So that is my pick for the WORST KIT.

Can't remember any from my childhood - didn't know better. Have to agree with Zvesda T-60, though I did finish it, plastic was so soft I flatten a couple road wheels trying to remove the sprue stubs. I have nothing against the Lindberg kits: I have several 1/48 kits of British 1920-30 biplanes, they have no interior, just top half of pilot, but that was state of art for the '60s

. That is why there is stratch building.

My biggest disappointment was the Glencoe BTR-50...The only decent thing was the decals.

I'd have to place my vote for the Smer (Artiplast) 1/48 (1/50??) Savoia-Marchetti SM.79. I knew it was a rough kit when I acquired it, but it exceeded all my dire expectations!
I decided to build it anyway, probably for the same reason people climb mountains (just to "conquer" it). I became a little tired of the smell of Squadron's green putty, so I put it aside for a while.....it's about 75% finished. If someone asked to see it I'd probably sit down and finish it.

It's hard to nail down one kit. I have built a few Heller planes, where one side of the fuse had a very different profile than the other. It really shows on the nose of the plane! I had a couple of bad experiences with Lindberg, including the worst car model I have ever done. (40 Ford) and a racing plane that took about a half pound of auto body putty, just to match up the top and bottom wing halves! I expect resin, vac and short run kits to be major building jobs, so they have to be really bad to get a vote from me. That being said, "Flaming River" gets my vote for their Ju-160 The fuse was over a quarter inch off in length, from side to side, and there wasn't a straight line ,or a fair curve anywhere on the thing. It made the BV 141 look symmetrical! The owner of the company admitted that he couldn't build the kit either, so he stopped selling it.
I look at models like that as a challenge to my abilities. My latest "Challenge" looks like it's going to be a Tupolev Ant-25. The model company is listed as Tupolev, but I think it's just because the distributor can't figure which writing on the box is supposed to be the company name. Well... I can't either! It's all cyrillic. This beast is going to be a bit of a challenge, and I want to get it right. The fuse looks like it isn't going to fit, ,and I have already test fit the wings. They don't! I am wondering if the Maquette model will be the same thing, or worse? If they are different tools, I will probably buy that one too, and build a model using the best bits of both kits. I have a pretty nasty warp, and a front to back bow to fix in the wings, and And there will be enough flash leftover to vacuum form a Pitts. When I get done with this model, It will feel almost like a scratchbuild project. I guess I really love the subject matter though. It makes me appreciate the completed model that much more!

my list:
Tamiya
U.s. army infantry
terrible things !!!
I'm building that right now. What specifically was wrong with them. I haven't noticed anything that I feel makes them a bad kit. Although this is my first figure set.

Hi dman....you may have the newer Tamiya figures.....the ones people are talking about are the figure packs of 4....there was US infantry....German Infantry....German paras......they weren't much more than toys at the time I 1st bought them and they're still on the market today.
If these are the figures you are building....keep it up...if they make you smile that's all that matters.
I love the smell of plastic and glue in the morning.

I have to agree with that. Transparencies that are not (transparent, that is). Best thing in the kit I got were the decals. Saved them, the rest went in the bin.
Another one that went the same way was a 1/48 Fujimi Spitfire MkVb. I've seen more detail on some 1/72 examples, plus the starboard fuselage paneling was a mirror image of the port side.

Heller Leopard 2A4 is the worst I have seen so far. I am working on it now and I will finish it, just so that I can try a couple of new techniques. But you'll never see it, that's for sure, 'cause I'm not taking any pictures of it.....

The worst kit I ever tried to build was an 1/48 F4 phantom. I can't remember the company but it was either Korean or Japanese. It was the only airplane I wanted to see if it could really fly.

Is that the one sort of running in a crouched position with the translucent carapace?
No, this one has a small base that looks like the alien hive. The alien is of the kind that we see in "Aliens", the second movie. He's got his arms thrown back and his head twisted to one side, as if he is going to take a bite out of something.
It'd look really cool... if the thing would fit together!

A show of hands,or sprue nippers,please.
Anyone else suffer with the HiPM Vindicator? It earned my distinction of being a "wall" model.
1.Open box.
2.start assembly.
3.notice fit / alignment problems.
4.Get disgusted.
5. Propel at scale 500 mph into nearest wall.
6.Wait for a reborn Accurate Minitures to do it right.

Yodaman, I just saw that box to that kit today at Baycon. I thought of your posts when I saw it.. Must be the same engimeer who designed the one with the egg. The box is way cool, though.

worst models.. lets see..
Starfix... extreamly cheap aircraft... no cockpit.. not to scale... I got a bunch for about a quarter each.. I used them to learn how to airbrush.. thats the only value I think you can get out of them.
Amt /ertel Star Wars kits... I started the x-wing.. directions had mistakes. no painting instructions. and fit.. well... lets say it had generous tolerences. It went back into the box.
Worst kit I've ever finished.. would have to be my first one the revell / monogram P-61 black widow. fit was terrible..major mold flash, and had to use a lot of putty as filler.. esp on the rear tail assembly.. and the clear parts just don't fit the kit anymore. I used as much clear cement to cover the gaps as plastic.
see below.

By far the worst kits that I have encountered were the Heller French Renult tank [sorry for the bad spelling] and linbergs Blue Devil Destroyer.

A 48 scale Hobbycraft F-4U Corsair was a piece of crap !!! I always heard Hobbycraft called or referred to as "HobbyCrap"

The kit was more putty than plastic!!!!
