Hello everyone! I have to admit I was'nt impressed with "Over There' last night. I know you can't base everything on the first episode. So I'm going to continue watching. But with the quality of "Nip and Tuck" and "The Sheild" I must say, I was expecting a little more. What did everyone else think?

I think the characters are a bit overdone but they might tone that down later. Seems like a decent show. I think that was an FV432 standing in for a M113.

I couldn't tell who was flown away in the chopper at the end. For most of the show they were bundled up in helmets, goggles scarves and a duststorm.

I'm a huge fan of war shows but I must say, I watched it for 10 minutes and quickly lost interest. I just wasn't engaged by the story line. I'm really critical though. I compare everything to BoB and Saving Private Ryan.

I think that was Bo, the football player, whose hopes and dreams of returning ot play college ball were dashed.

While there were parts that were intense, I got the feeling I was watching an old "Cowbows and Indians" where the Indians couldn't hit anything and every cowbow shot took down several Indians riding by on horseback. Exchange the berm for the classic circled wagons and the image is complete.

The markings on the medevac looked strange as well.

I agree with most of you on this one. It was an ok show, NOT GREAT, but ok. I'll still watch it to see if it gets better.

The nicknames, TO CORNEY!!!!!!!!!!

The SGT, to gung ho for me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even my worse NCO's where no where like him!!!!!

I would like to here the comments of the actual 3rd ID vets since that is the unit they are portraying.

I'm totally with you on the nicknames too. Another thing i did'nt like was how during a gunfight in the desert. They have to bring up racism! Personally I've never been in a gun fight. But, I imagine if I was in one, I think the last thing on my mind would be how oppressed people are!

Didn't watch it, won't watch it.

From what I saw during TV promos, this is Hollyweird's latest stab at anti-war propaganda aimed at trivializing the war and the folks serving in that Mid-East cat box of a country

My take on the article in the Seattle paper is that the bad guys are to be viewed with sympathy, and that white soldiers are condescending to women and racist to boot.

Not to mention wives left at home being portrayed as unfaithful and ready to roam as soon as hubby is off to war.

Typical Hollyweird BS - total crap; the usual lack of true research before picking up the camera and wasting the air waves with low quality drivel.

Just my opinion.

I doubt I'll be back for a second serving, so I'm not defending the show.

It seemed pretty apolitical to me while not being very interesting.

The Iraqis or whoever was in the mosqu were no more than cardboard cutouts with horrendously bad aim. One was not even able to hit a stationary target three feet away with his AK! Of course, they were also balzingly stupid to run across an open field with no cover, rather tan attempting a flanking or multi-pronged move against the Americans who had minimal cover and less support.

and that white soldiers are condescending to women

Perhaps, in that one kept trying to help a woman dig in and she rejected the offer

and racist to boot.

The only race talk I caught was between two African American troopers, one who was pushing playing the race card and the other who rejected it.

For at least one o fthem. I'm betting that she was doing the deed long before that guy shipped out.

I think the anti-war component of the show is the portrayal of the soldiers and being either pissed off or confused and their commanders as micro managing everything and not letting them fight. IMO, trying to portray it as a modern day Vietnam.

The 203 round impact on the Iraqi with the still running torso was completely unnecessary.

The article was a good read. I've changed my mind and hope this show dies a quick death. Either that or we take up a collection to send Bochco over to Iraq for some research.
