do you know Singapore also has the M60 Cobat Engineer tank and..... The Centurion. I think the Centurion are station overseas and its suppose to be a "secret".
How I know? Jane's book about MBT says so. So long for "secrets" :-)

Singapore's military arsenal is quite impressive considering its size. Yes we certainly do have the CET although im somewhat surprise its still in service. We use to transport the CET across water obstacles during division wide deployments in Tuas. When i was in the army, it was the heaviest vehicle to in the singapore army, 60 tons....not sure about now though.

A Singapore campaign could yield quite a good turn out of models i feel. As already mentioned, the M113 variant, armored vehicle launch bridge (AVLB), M2B Amphibious Transport etc....if we start including the air force and navy...the list goes on....F16, Apaches...

I think its a great idea and even though i live all the way here in NZ, i would love to join in.

I managed to dig up some old photos about some of the vehicles i mentioned. I took all of this mainly during one of the combat enginner displays where i was in charge of the M2B display.

Imagine building these for the campaign

The AVLB: Usually launched under enemy fire

Combat Engineer Vehicle

The Comet

I started a thread recently to try to find if i could build the M2B Comet but apparently they arent manufactured by the Tamiyas, Academy and Revells of this world which was kinda sad.

Dude we all know they had these MBT in the list. But they are not deployed as it is, we only use the chasis. Most of these chasis ended up with the combat engineers mod variant. Our MBT are alwasy the SM-1 and that we focus more on IFV like BIONIX and stuff.
My dad works with the armor simulator project, he assembled the armor simulator chasis some time ago.

Much as these MBTs arent actively deployed, my unit used to require them for stress testing our amphibious vehicles so they are still used from time to time. They are also activated for displays only because they still project the impression of power to the ministers that know little about it.

Im kinda gutted i didnt take photos of the CEV loaded onto the Comet raft cause you can really see how much the raft sinks and becomes submerged under water.

Hi !

The M2 is available from Accurate Armour of UK. I was comptemplating of buying it but to me it was too expensive to buy 3 plus the crew to form a company diorama.

One thing for sure, Accurate's product is definitely better than the one on display at ARMCEG.

Its not the M2 Bradley, got this kit from Tamiya 20 yrs back with full interior after skipping meals for a month; hic those were the days.

The M2 refered here is the M2 Amphibious Transporter /Raft. Commonly known by the classified name as COMET in 35 SCE and also known within as Transformers after the cartoon series because of the way it changes.

Accurate's kit (1/35) is modelled after UK's current rafts; kit can be modelled in raft mode; comes with PE parts. Crew sold seperately; only snag is the life jacket is different from our regular issue with 35SCE.

It retails around 200 pounds excluding figures and shipping.

Haha.. hello SK..

I'm in to warships... but that was a long way ago. Those Tamiya 1/700.. That got me into scale modelling. Now i've switched to Armor and I have a 1/350 under my workbench which I dare not touch... It looks so peaceful in the box under my bench... LOL...

Anyway, very nice pictures of your builds in your gallery... Mind starting a post and share some of your tips on those builds?

I wonder what's under your bench??

Let me guess... Either a Yamato or the Bismarck!

I also wanted to switch to Armour (The dragon kits are protesting to me that they are in the box for too long)but the satisfaction is nothing compare to accomplishing a 1/350 ship.

The M2B is no longer under classified status and has actually been phased out so photos of it is allowed. I had clarified this with my officers before doing so.

Mentioning ARMCEG before would have given one heaps of problems but that too is no longer classified.

Not many people actually knew of it....i certainly didnt until i had to command a raft consisting of 3 of them. I have to admit it does look cool but i tell you the maintenance on the damn thing is horrendous and when Singapore first purchased it, they seemed to have overlooked the fact that the vehicle was first made for fresh water obstacles....they only realised their mistake after launching it into our salt waters in Seletar. Go figure.

FYI, ARMCEG was directly in charge of the Comet, 35SCE was just the company we were categorised under. A raft consist of 6 specialist (1 of them raft comm) and 6 men.

Ive been looking for a kit that i can construct on it and dont want to buy a ready made kit. Do you guys know where i can get one? As i recall, Accurate Armor only sells the ready made kit.

You must be the 3rd or 4th Batch of COMET. COMET personnels are usually regulars unless they change the rules again. I guess COMET was declass 2 years or more back. I was surprise to see it on NDP.

Last time, when COMET & ALMOND move, it is usually in a veil of secrecy and in darkness (camouflaged )and at times with MP outriders escorting; and that was many many years back

Now it looks like a piece of junk waiting to serve out its useful life span; just like the infamous boat coy

So far for 39; it started around 1990 as a spoof unit; no signboard whatsoever. people know there is something going on but no one knew what it was then.
Now the SAF can't stop bragging about them.

Well...

Being a SAF personnel, think I shall not talk to much about the issue on the M2B Comet vehicle and the infamous Boat Coy that I am about to hand over to my successor.

Anyway, There iwas a M2B Comet model on sail quite a few years back. I don't know what is the Brand but its in 1/72 scale being sold at the Orchard store.

Those NCO back then who are Comet trained lke to buy 3 pcs of them and form a raft for display. Very common esp in 1997 - 2000 and usually are parting gift for outgoing COs and OCs. But can't find them anymore, maybe in oversea hobby shops.

Basically 1/72 scale has no kick to make any representation, there was once I was tasked to buy a model boat and built it with the evening just as a momento to the outgoing CO. Worst part was no time to remodel it to look like a proper one.

Well the models at ARMCEG I believe was commissioned by a local model firm; scale wise its neither 1/32 or 1/35 but bigger. Definitely scratch built unless I stand corrected by anyone else who knows.

Accurate Armours' 1/35 kit is still the best representation of the M2 and no hobby store in Asia carries it; that I know for certain. You have to mail order for sure.

So far I wanted to scratch built the Almond or Candace, however I can't find much details or dimension on the web to begin with.

35 is no longer the classified camp as it use to be. Boat Coy was infamous as the officers were usually the worst of the Brigding Offr of each batch. NCOs were usually out of place fellas whom neither fit anywhere in the service or people pending career outcomes or worst white horses. Men wise were the worst ; more like a motley crew. I wonder if PL 2 still maintain the notoriety among the coy.

Yup... you got it right... it's a Yamato...

Hmm... until I build it up... and hopefully nicely done, I love the sense of satisfaction too...

Naah i was much later than that but cant recall which batch i am. Due to the luck of the draw though, we were essentially the first in the next phase of commanders to take over the Comets so after we passed out, we trained our men and the next bunch of specialist. All of which were not regulars...all NSFs.

When we were deployed, due to the size of our vehicles and convoys, we had to have MP escorts anyway. I recall a division wide exercise which involved the entire engineer division, infantry and some support from the air force, our entire company rolled out every single Comet that we could spare and the convoy ended up to be so long that they ran out of MPs. Driving along the highway, all you could see from start to end were comets with our convoy lights on.

Comet was shrowded in secrecy for awhile only because Malaysia werent aware that we had the capabilities to transport armor across without having to use the causeway. Like all things, people eventually found out about it hence why it was de-classified. The one thing we did notice when selected for this company were that there were no other races (malay, indonesians etc) assigned to our company, which was a little sad to be honest.

The one thing i never understood with the way we did things were that as a raft commander, i had to put on a red life jacket while standing on the raised ramps out at sea. At night, we had glowing night sticks which could have been easy for snipers to spot and take down. I couldnt advertise myself as a sitting duck any more than that.

A single comet itself didnt really do much, it was most effective as a raft hence why when we could get hold of them, getting them in 3s were best. I really wish i could get my hands on those models.

EDIT: I find whats more impressive than several comet rafts in the water is when all rafts come together to form a comet bridge. You will otherwise never see so many comets coupled next to each other in such a nice formation in the water.
