First , if this is in the wrong area, then by all means edit it to the correct forum.

Secondly, thanks Tony Matteliano for listing this book on Ebay so I could place the winning bid.

Now on with my comments. As a member of this site for nearly two years now, I've heard of this book over and over from other members and in reviews posted in the forums. Let me say this IS the "Bible" for sherman fans and all Allied medium tank fans. I can't believe the listings of production variants and never produced variants that you can discover in text and images from archives. I've done alot of web surfing for images on the Sherman, and even though i've been able to build up quite a collection on my hard-drive, this book has amazed me with a ton of photos i've never seen. As for the information in the text, i'll have to report on a later date, as I will be reading it cover to cover before starting another tank kit.

Just wanted to share my good news with you all..

kevin

and one last comment: Thanks Armorama editors , members and StaffJim for this site. I've said it before but it's worth repeating. This site has helped me find my way back to a long lost hobby from my youth. Thanks again guys..

To All:

Is this book really ALL that? I mean, I have seen that book sell for all kinds of levels & it doesn't bother me because I have never seen this book other than the picture of the cover - MY PROBLEM is I don't think I could bid on it having never been able to thumb through one for myself.

I was fortunate enough to find one for $150 on the missing Links sale forum a few years ago. I agree that it is a really good Sherman reference and probably the best Sherman reference volume available.

I have seen them go for ridiculous prices ($250-500). Perhaps someday it will be reprinted once again.

I just would really have to be able to see one 1st - but that is just me. I want to stress that I am not belittling anyone who has paid untold sums for one of these. I guess I am in awe of how revered this book is. This book alone seems to command more respect than any model or model related product out there time & time again.

I paid $195 for my copy on ebay a couple of years ago and couldn't believe my luck. I'm glad you were able to get one Kevin.
Like Sabot, I would like to see the whole series reprinted. I have 5 so far, and each is a superb reference.

I picked one up on eBay for $106 two minutes after a seller listed it with a Buy It Now for $90US. I thought that was quite a steal

Personally there is a lot of technical detail that I find interesting but have no use as a modeler. I don't do much scratch building and I am not a rivet counter. The Hunnicutt provides information about even the smallest of details. It may be a little more technical than I need... for now that is!! I can see the day I will want to super detail a Sherman with the works and this book will give that to you.

However if you are simply looking for pictures of Shermans out in the field loaded with equipment then this is not the book for you. There is a small section of Shermans in action but the vast majority is detail shots, close ups and comparisions from one version to the next version. Most of the "in the field" photos I have seen before.

For Shermans in the field I would go with Squadron's Sherman in Action and/or Steve Zaloga's Sherman at War.

hehe .... I got mine as a gift from a friend. I kept borrowing it all the time, so he bought a second one and told me to keep the first. This was back in the late 80s, when the book was still widely available. I think he paid about $80 for each of them, brand new.

I keep mine handy -- I still dip into it at least once a week for something.
