In a couple hours I'll be 49 years old. When did this happen? I swear it was last year I graduated high school, now I've got a daughter who will do so next year. Seemed like last month my youngest was born. Now she'll be driving in a few months. Wasn't it just last week I bought my house? We'll have been in it six years in July.

I'll be 50 next year, half a century. If I was a car I'd be an antique. I'll be eligible for AARP, (that's American Association of Retired People), even though I'm not retired. Pretty soon I'll be able to get discounts at Denny's and movie theaters. When did I get old?

Oh well, it's like they say, a man is only as old as the women he feels. Of course the wife isn't getting any younger either.

So I guess I'll just have to have a couple beers tomorrow and think how much fun I'll have when I retire and get to start making all those models I'm stashing.

Rodger, I have 5 years on you. Getting old may bite the big one, but it beats not getting old, despite what The Who sang. I know how you’re feeling…last week I graduated high school, a day later I was graduating college and getting married. Next thing I knew, I has a career, a house and bifocals.
The good news is I’m still with the woman I married over 30 (sure don’t seem like that) ago, respected at work and in this hobby, I have both a hot motorcycle and a really cool roadster, and AARP is not al that bad. It gets you some pretty decent discounts when you travel.

Happy Birthday Rodger! My that do have a young ring to it! Kind of like Al, I have 6 years on you Rodger. All them years seems like a blur at times, But I find myself doing a lot of remembering back to the good young days! About half of which I would just as soon forget. After thinking back about some of the stuff I did when I was a young man, I tell myself Man that was stupid! Remember when you were a youngun, and you were cussing the old foggy in front of you for only driving the speed limit? Well now I'm driving the speed limit! Whats the big hurry? LOL!
Hey them senior discounts add up to more new model kits!
Have a great Birthday Rodger!

Congratulations, Your one year closer to the fabled "Decade Before H----." Soon you'll be spending more and more time at the various doctor's offices, and the very first thing they will tell you when you voice a complaint is: "Well, you know when you reach a certain age........."

They'll be wanting to poke this, and prode that, stick scopes either down or up certain areas of the body, etc. just to look around, or as they call it "establishing a base line." Certain ares of your body will begin to hurt and ache, for apparently no reason at all, glasses will either become your best friend or get thicker lenses, age spots appear, you'll begin to have trouble getting up, esp. if you've been down on the floor, going to the bath room becomes less of an enjoyable experience, and you'll be paying closer attention to all those commericals on TV now about improving you bedroom life, there will be certain foods that you can no longer eat, for a variety of reasons. etc., etc., etc. Ha, ha!

Enjoy it while you can, as it's all downhill from here on out.

Take care, Sgirty

Oh yes, I forgot that there is one thing that does tend to get more enjoyable as we get older. The younger women tend to be more friendly and talkative to us. Now this isn't necessarily because men, as a general rule, tend to get sexier as we age--we can't all be a Sean Connery, unfortunately--but because we are no longer considered a physical threat to them, and tend to take on a sort of "fatherly"--and later on, a "grandfatherly"--type of figure to them. You would be surprised as just how talkitive the good-looking young mothers are to me when I take my grand kids to school now. And this in iself is sort of an ego booster for these old tired bones. Unfortunatly it's taken almost 60 yeras to get that kind of respect from the fairer sex. Ha, ha!

Enjoy and take care, Sgirty

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU...HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.....HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR RODGER.....HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.

Yes us women do find the older men much more sexy than the younger ones...its just something a man only gains with age.

If it makes you feel any better, Rodger, I joined the army when you were 4 years old! Just remember, 50 is only a half way point, so enjoy the ride. Happy birthday!

Happy Birthday Roger. Don't worry about getting old. It just gets you closer to your second childhood. :-) Just remember that we all have to get older, but we don't have to grow up.

Happy Birthday, Rodger, and many more to follow.

I've got 10 years on you -- it ain't so bad.

However, I want to burst your bubble a bit. You said ".... when I retire and get to start making all those models I'm stashing."

I'm retired -- doesn't work that way -- wifey dear will find things to keep you occupied. This last week has been spent more on 1:1 scale Purple Martin houses than the far more important (IMHO) models on my bench ....

Happy Birthday Rodger.
I've got 10 years on you. I have found a way to feel younger. I work in a nursing home and at least once a day someone will call me "Young Man". I consider that a great fringe benifit.
Have a great day.

well i'm only 20 and i sort of konw what you mean.

In 2001 i gruated from high school, and now i'm in my second (3rd soon) term in collage, after doing 3 terms in collage (long story). It seems like the time inbetween now and when i finished high school just disapeared without a trace and suddenly the first digit in my age is #2

My God, Jonathan, you are in college and don't even know how to spell it???? What school do you go to?I'm glad you "gruated" from high school -- most of us graduated.

Rodger:Hang in there, bro. Time drives on and we must follow. I'm not far behind you.

(I don't mean to be mean, Jonathan, but some of this stuff really bugs me ... your college ought to demand better English skills. )

Rodger, I must say as I get closer to 40 I realize that there are 2 types of people.
1 Those who age with dignity and grace.
2 Those who brood and whine about aging.
Now ,I must admit that I'm none too fond of the grey hairs I keep finding on my person, but I'm not at all ashamed to tell the world how old I am. Then again I will not simply offer the information either... I see it like one of those annoyances like Taxes... it happens no matter how hard you try to avoid it.lol
