Having heard nothing from The IPMS president, Paul Regan or the branch liaison officer I was lucky to meet Larisa Ann Burley at the Huddersfield show. I explained how there seemed to be a lack of interest with the top dogs in the committee. She said to leave it to her, she usually has to sort things out. Well She has contacted me to let me know that the next committee meeting will be held on the 19th March and she will bring the subject up on my behalf. Jim as also emailed her to confirm his committment.
There will be benefits to IPMS members who join IPMS Armorama, so stay tuned. It will be advantages to have members all around the country so we can have a stand st as many shows as possible

Hi Philip,
One of the major problems with both IPMS Sheffield and Rotherham is that the meet in pubs, not the ideal environment for a 12 year old. I joined each of these branches 3 times but only ever attended 1 meeting each time. They all seemed to just want to do the pub thing and discussing models seemed to be the last thing on their minds. Pretty crappy if you ask me I would have thought that they would have welcomed new blood and made the environment suitable for youngsters.
I would check out your local IPMS branch, there are some very good ones out there. I would imagine that It can be daunting for a youngster to attend these meetings, but it shouldn't be. Go to the IPMS website get the email address or phone number of the local branch and contact them and gauge their reaction.
If you are lucky and find one of the good branches then it will be worth joining. Having your questions answered on Armorama is great but there can be no substitute for be show, a good branch will do this, I would hope.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, apparently about all that is needed to start a branch is 5 fully paid up members to the IPMS and the Committee's OK. Although not a member yet, I will be so only another 4 to go. If you are already an IPMS member you can count. So if you are and want to be a member of IPMS Armorama let me know.
When we get the go ahead I'll let you know more. I have asked Larisa to let me know the outcome of the meeting as soon as possible. The ultimate goal is to have a stand at Telford this year

Hi Mal

I let my IPMS membership lapse years ago, but I'll gladly join up again to support Armorama. Let me know how I can help.

Great work getting this going!

Mal,
I did post a thread to check out the membership in the South / South West, but sadly there has been no response. I will do my damnest to get to Doncaster for our first event, and would be happy to take care of something similar down this end. It just seems that there's not much happening down my neck of the woods. I will check out the IPMS down here ( I believe there is something in Salisbury) but in the mean time, see you in Doncaster.

Cheers

Mal,
I posted a thread under another section ref :an "Armorama (guest) table"at the East of Scotland Model Showin in theCaird Hall on 25th June. This is a new show run jointly by IPMS Dundee and East Newk IPMS Modelling groups and I gave out an invite to Armoramites ,living in the area ,to let me know if they wished to attend under Armorama's banner. So far the replies total---0. As this show is aimed ,primerally ,at IPMS members ,I stated that I (as treasurer) would ,personally, ensure a table will be available.
I know of 5 IPMS members who use this site from my club
My offer still stands untill May 30th.
aye,

I have a local IPMS club meeting not 2 miles from here, unfortunately as I work nights getting to their meetings proves a tad difficult. I know there's one member that uses this site, as for others I have no idea. They have a show every year (October i think) in a local sports centre, I would be quite happy to contact the organiser(s) too see about a table there if anyone else wishes to join me.

I don't think it's going to be a problem getting the required number of members but I think Jim will have an IPMS Armorama tag for those that are members. So that's a good reason to join?
Thanks Littorio.
Henk, if you can make it to Doncaster that will be fantastic.
Barv, It is quite a journey to Dundee but I will try and make it. It will definitely be an overnighter so is there a good B&B somewhere close.
Pete, There has been talk about posting accoutrements (banner etc) around the country so that members at different locations have what is required to put on a stand. Good idea but could prove expensive? For this small show I am having a banner made (Jim offered to send me one but I thought the $100 could be best use for the site, for now. I will take him up on it for the big one at Telford). Unfortunately the one I am having made will be on a board and not suitable for posting. I have thought about attending all shows but that will never happen. There are however a few shows that I can and will attend.
I think what probably needs to happen is for us to co-ordinate areas so we can get at least 2-3 possibly 3-4 members to each of the shows. What is shown on a stand will depend on who can attend and ideally should include as many different genres as possible. In these early days any showing of the banner will be a good thing, maybe it can get a small space on the branch tables of other branches where members belong as well. The original concept sprang from a request by Jim looking for ways to attract more members, so just inducing curiosity and handing out leaflets would go a little way to achieving this.

Just keep you up dated, The IPMS committee met on the 19th March and Larisa brought up the subject of IPMS Armorama. The committee decided that, because this was new then they needed more information and that Paul Regan should contact me for it. What more they need to know other than the 2 pages of the proposal that I sent to Paul I can't imagine. This is really frustrating, I had to send an email to Larisa to find out what went on, she said that Paul should have written to me. He hadn't so I sent him an email, he still hasn't. I know it's the bank holiday but he has got my phone number and I've asked him to phone. I think this is crazy, what sort of committee lets a recruiting oppertunity like this go begging. If it wasn't for the fact that when this finally gets off the ground, and I'm sure it will, it will help recruit for Armorama, otherwise I'd say go freelance and forget IPMS.
My gut feeling is just to go ahead and do it, If I can show that we have plenty of new members then they will have to let us form. In any event apparently we can get a table without being a branch? I'll have to look into that one.
It might be a good Idea if I can give names of those who would join the IPMS to become a member of IPMS Armorama? This is also quite unique as you don't have to be a member of the IPMS to join a branch (a branch requires 5 paid up members to form) but with IPMS Armorama you will have to be an IPMS member to gain the benifits (more on that when it takes off)
So If you would join the IPMS to become a member of IPMS Armorama, say so here. If you are already a member of the IPMS and would also like to join IPMS Armorama also let it be known here. If I haven't heard from Paul Regan by the end of the bank holiday I will try phoning him so the more names I have the better.
Thanks.

As posted on a previous thread I am a member of IPMS and will happily add my name to the IPMS Armorama gang. I can't travel far though I do attend a regular club in Farnborough.
There is a show in Poole in April and one in Salisbury in June. I can get you more details of these if anyone is interested.
The Farnborough "Modelfest" is in September and will be held in the 6th Form Colleege this year. Again more details available if anyone is interested.
Give Mr Reagan a break. everyone is entitled to some time off and he is a volunteer for IPMS.

As posted already I'm a IPMS member but will be glad to join IPMS Armorama as well.
I will be at Newhaven Fort (Fort full of models) 3rd July with my branch and at Telford in November.

Just a thought but have you thought about a stand at the Duxford Military Display in August.

Phil it's a possibility, that the IPMS will be in attendance, some of the personalities i believe may be involved with the show, might bring them out. If so then we could gang up on them
