i would be interested in joining to support armorama, but i doubt i would be able to make it to any IPMS meetings, hence why i would love armorama IPMS.

if it can be done by post or online then ill join, but otherwise ill have to wait until we get the online thing here up and running!

p.s. mal, whens the doncaster show again? ill try my best to get there but will have to check first!

regards

Peter, you can download an application form HERE click the "Join" button at the top, the link to the form is in the text. Dues are paid direct to the IPMS, not local branches.
Joe the Doncaster show is this Sunday 3rd April, open to the public from 10.00, to stand holders and vendors from 08.00.
As Joe has brought it up we need to come up with a method of holding meetings? or maybe not. The "branch" will be hosted on the UK site and in one way will be a meeting place all the time. I believe that a well run branch would have something at each meeting to inform the members. It might be an airbrushing demo or figure painting demo or using PE, anything that helps the branch members move forward in the skill level. How do we do this "on site"? Can we start a thread and get answers and questions, much as we do now but at a certain time/date and with an expected topic. What about a weekly/monthly look at members projects? Of cours, like most things this will develope. Any ideas?

I'm trying to get hold of Paul Regan's phone number so I can call him, he doesn't seem to want to call me. I'll keep you informed.

Hi Mal

Off the top of my head, Jim could probably arrange something along the lines of the A-Guard forum for IPMS members i.e. paid up membership opens up access to the forum. If we get an official link-up with IPMS-UK with a shared database, that should be perfectly do-able...

It would be worth checking with him on that.

All the best

Yes, nice one Rowan, I hadn't thought of that. IPMS ArmoramaUK will be hosted on the UK site and will have a link to the IPMS site. If I can get a link back and have a dedicated IPMS forum things should tick over nicely.

All,
Seems we could have a winner here....needs all IPMS members to send Mal our numbers and bits to get it up and running.......IPMS UK visitors will be at Scottish at Perth in few weeks.......I will be there with Dundee and East Neuk ...come and say hello
aye,
barv Steve C

Yes it might be a good idea if current IPMS members send me their IPMS ID (PM). In the future I will require this for members to get their IPMS ArmoramaUK bits on the site.
I emailed Larisa last night to try and get Paul Regan's phone number.

I have had an email from Larisa. Paul Regan is going to be at the Doncaster show with the IPMS stand. This is great I will be able to talk to him personally again. This time we will have the Armorama stand to back us up. He will see that it isn't just pie in the sky.
Guys if you are coming to the show and intend to join the IPMS this would be the time to do it. If not then an influx from us after the show would also be a good thing.

It appears that Paul Regan has been trying to contact me but has been having ISP and BT problems.
Without going into detail (I have given that to Jim) the IPMS had several concerns about this proposal, but after a good conversation with Paul Regan I think I was able to show that they were unfounded. The Committee still has to be convinced but we will have a greater chance when the concerns have been dealt with.
I am going to join the IPMS, soonest, as I think this may have been a sticking point that as a potential branch secretary I wasn't a member. As you know to form a branch we need at least 5 fully signed up members of the IPMS. Although there are several members of Armorama who have indicated that they will join IPMS Armorama, it would really give the idea some amunition if those that would join to do it soonest also. (There is no garruntee that IPMS Armorama will get off the ground but it is looking very likely) If you do join now make a note on your application to the effect that you are joining to become a member of the proposed branch of IPMS Armorama. This will really add clout to the proposal, so the more the merrier.

Nice one Eric
Just an update, Jim has suggested that he speek to Paul Regan directly. I am in the process of setting this up, Jim is ill at the moment and Paul has business to deal with, but I hope it will happen fairly soon.

Mal,
If the members of "big A" are going to back you up on this ......re- 5 members .....they should say so by giving you there IPMS numbers.... mine 9195 ......this way shows who is "in".
Come on guys ..this gives fellow modelers a chance to have a table at shows when they have been too far away to belong to a club..or because of commitments not able to join.........
Stand up and be counted..........
aye,
BARV

PS ... Thanks for the banner Mal

Hello Everyone

This is my first post in more ways than one. I've read the previous about IPMS Armorama and to my knowledge, all the concerns were sorted at Doncaster.

Anyone out there who want's to join IPMS(UK), as I can't speak for the overseas groups, can contact me direct as from 17 April this year, I am the new membership secretary.

Simply send me your name and address and I'll get the application form to you by snail mail.

Contact me on [email protected]
or
write to Ian M DAy
229 Low Lane
Horsforth Leeds LS18 5QL

For those who wonder if it's worthwhile, let me tell you a story.
I am building the Italeri C-130 in 1/48. I liked the Brazilian AF scheme that FCM give you on one of their transfer sheets. Sheet purchased and construction commence. Ah, no top view. Where do the wing stars go and being English, I couldn't read Portugese.
So, I e-mailed one of our Brazilian members who is a Major in the Brazil AF. A few hours later, I had a top view drawing of the aircraft direct from FCM Decals as he knows the guy who runs the firm. At the same time, he also sent me a sheet which is out of stock in the UK, all for the cost of a discounted kit from Hannats and a sheet of transfers.
To me, this is what IPMS is all about. Modellers the whole world over helping each other get more out of the hobby.
You may meet the occaisional numpty, but the vast majority are real nice guys (and gals).

Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Steve,
Yes we would easily get 5 who are already IPMS members, it would be nice to get 5 new ones to kick this off though. We have had more than 5 intimating that they will join, I guess some have gotten a little fed up with the time this is taking? Fear not it's getting close, I'm waiting for Paul Regan to contact me so I can go ahead and get him and Jim talking. Nice display.

Hi Ian, welcome to Armorama

Well I spoke to both Paul Regan and Richard Farrar and I think I was able to convince them that it's a good idea. It is the committee that has to decide though. It looks like they would be more agreeable if this was to become the contact point for what used to be the "Country Branch". I have said that I wouldn't have any major objections taking that on.

So guys, get sending off to Ian for membership applications and don't forget to indicate you are joining in the hope that IPMS Armorama gets the go ahead

Thanks Ian, canyou make a note that we are joining in the hope that IPMS Armorama UK becomes a reality. This is so that when it comes up again at a committee meeting it will add alittle weight. I did indicate this but the others may have not (Guys if this is not the case please pipe up). There will be others, Rowan (Merlin) for one.
I have not heard from Paul Regan, to get him and Jim talking, so I think I will get together the request to start a branch. This is the first step and will then have to be ratified by the committe.

It will definately be brought up at the next EC meeting, if not by me then Larisa or Richard Farrar.

I know that Paul Regan works away a lot and the liaison officers post is vacant at the mo, with Chris Norfolk, the Publicity officer, doing what he can.

Why not e-mail Chris for a branch set up form at [email protected].?

Hi all

I've been caught in a heavy patch of video work lately, so my on-line time has been next to non-existent, but I'll definitely try to sort out an application next week.

Ian, I was an IPMS-UK many years ago, but I let my membership lapse. Will it cause problems if I apply from scratch, or should I try to resurrect my old account?

All the best

Merlin

It's not an account as such, so if you can remember your old number and it's not being used, I could re-instated it for you.

Cheers Ian

I'll see if I can find a note of my old number somewhere - but the odds are it's long gone.

All the best
