Ah well...
it had to happen...another dose of feeling homesick, especially as Christmas will soon be upon us.
Plus the fact that Emily's and my departure from Saudi is after all only a few months away, seems to compound the effect... whinge, snivel

Its not just that another Christmas will be spent away from home...its all the little things that begin to add up when one is travelling through this affliction.
For example...

Eggs....yes I did say eggs, and not the chocolate Easter kind, but plain ordinary chuckie eggs.
Here they are small and when cracked lack any appetising qualities...the yolk looks like its frightened, its so pale. And they seem to have the antidote for non-stick frying pans built into their tasteless little genes.
Oh to get stuck in to a couple of the large free range golden yolkers you get back home.

Bread...
I do like Arabic bread but the stuff they have available for toasting is a bland over-sweetened ghostly replica of a good loaf.

The driving...
I have never seen such consistantly bad driving as here.
No one gives a toss what mayhem they cause. 4 lanes = 6 with the guy on the extreme left wants to turn immediate right .
I've actually seen a bloke reverse on a round-a-bout because he missed his exit.

And of course there's the lack of sustenance in the form of bacon and that of a liquid kind.

Ah well...I'm feeling better now....lol.

Anyone else away from home and missing things?

Cheers
Peter

Where at in Saudi are you? I was over there for 80 days in the summer of 1994 with the U.S.Air Force I remember those bad drivers there Red lights and stop signs meant stopping was permitted but not mandatory :-)
When I was over there the thing I missed most was being able to get in to my pickup truck and drive myself Especially when I was off duty

Now, that I would pay money to see. I think I would have soiled myself laughing.

Peter Where at in Saudi are you?

I'm in Riyadh...the worst. Jeddah and Darrhan at least has the sea and salty air and Bahrain is only 20 minutes away from Darrhan.

Joe...hmmm mince pie and a brandy sounds delightful...but it does beg the question...are you doing a surrogate Santa this year? :-)

Davy....
Pain in the ares? well it is Wigan. And thanks for the offer...don't worry about DIY...the wife does that....I bought her a pair of ladders last year so she could get up and clean the gutters out... :-)

Martin...
my driving seat was a little wet with cold sweat....the problem was I had to take drastic avoiding action or he would have collected me on his way backwards.

Dave...
you know Arthur Hitis then? He used to live a couple of doors down from me.... :-)

Cheers
Peter

Well not really. Curacao is more a result of a vulcanic erruption There are some nice bays with white sand though... Good and warm substitute for Cold Snow... And about homesickness..... Spend enough winters here in Holland. We don`t have snow... Only rain wind and fog... White christmas or white winter is a quite unknown thing. For us it is Grey Christmas
