Hello friends.

After a couple of years of building models without a permanat workbench space because I live in an apartment and my wife has 4 cats. I finally decided to make myself a full time model building area for myself.

before i just set stuff up when i wanted to work. and this is kinda a pain as setting up and tearing down with a card table took up valuable time.

So I told my wife she had to find a new place for all her storage containers in the closet in the living room that held all her "holiday decorations", as i was taking it over for my own.

The toolbox is where i keep my supplies.. the desk and shelves were made from an old 7 foot 5 shelf sauder shelf unit.. just cut them up into a custom configuration. got a little room under for storage in the corner and added my small parts cabinet.. and a metal chair and now i have a place to keep my work out so i can work on it for 5 mins or 5 hours whatever I feel like and with the door closed the cats can't take my stuff..

The closet measures 4 foot deep by 3 and a half wide.. this is not the solution for claustrophobics.. esp when u shut the door...

I also live in an apartment, and that's an excellent idea, don't have the wife, but got 3 cats. The older ones have never touched my modelling stuff. My work area is a corner computer desk in the bedroom, but the kitten is getting to the age of exploring eveything, his latest is the book case in the living room, and I'm sure he's going to discover the finished models soon.
I love the idea of the tool cabinet, I got stuff all over, and perhaps that would be an ideal next major purchase item.
Enjoy your new peaceful but small space.

Only thing I don't see is the minibar... :-)

The space looks great. Am really jealous, I am also in a flat (apartment for you Yanks ) and work off a modelling tray .

Not to bad -you'll really like the dedicated space. Now worry of having to tear down is nice. You can now leave some things 'in process'

Cool deal.

I did the exact same thing when I was an apartment dweller. The best thing about it was I didnt have to keep cleaning up my mess and stashing it away when my modeling session was finnished. Your productivity will increase for sure
Cheers,

Yea I know its not.. just finished it last weekend and havn't really done much more than organize my tools and get ready for some serious building..

and Dave the toolbox is great.. was one of my first major purchaces.. I see em all the time in Wal-Mart as they have em off and on.. right now I think the last time I priced the one I have it was around $79. the best thing is the small paint bottles fit right in the top.. and I use stick on labels to label the top of them to make em easy to find. and the drawers are great for keeping tools and such.

This looks almost exactly like what I had when I lived in an apartment. Except that I got to use the whole closet :-)

Nice!

Depending on how tall you are and how tall the ceiling is, don't forget that you can get more storage overhead. Even if there is no room over your actual work area, there is overhead room over the tool chest.

Keep the door open and a fan on or the fumes will turn you into a modeler.

Oh... I've been using stick on labels for years, I write the color, and put a drop on also.

I couldn't do it, not with my stature.
But, I'm glad you got "your shop" in order.
Many happy days
