Hey, Since the folks on Crete treated me like a king when I was deployed there, I gotta return the favor.

I have boxed up and ready to ship tomorrow:

1 Airbrush
1 120mm Luftwaffe Pilot figure
1 set artist oil paints
6 Graduated plastic bottles with lids (2 med. 4 sm.)
Various grits (60-400) of sandpaper
3 small wooden bases for figures

Also somethin for the "little one" too!

Ya'll have got to take a vacation in Greece! The people, food and scenery are awesome! Watch out for the Raki, it has a heck of a KICK! Cheers Costas!!!!

What a response! I plan to send the following armor related;
Italeri PzKfpw 38(t)
Italeri Panzerjager Marder III
Squadron "Armor in Actions";
British Armor in Action
Sherman in Action
Leichte Panzers in Action
German Infantry in Action
Panzergrenadiers in Action
To get Costas back into the figures side (I think someone mentioned that he preferred "Pre-1900") I've got a few 54mm "Historex" Napoleonic figures to put in.
Might suggest that the "Group Build" could be used to track receipt of "Presents" for those that want it . Keep it coming,

I don't know what I could give.....maybe some brushes, and ooh! ooh! Maybe I could send some reference stuff to him. I heard he lost all of his reference materials, so maybe he could some of these:
M3 Grant
M26 Pershing
M2 Bradley
M10 Tank Destroyer
M3 Stuart
LVT (4)
LVT (A) 4
WWII US Radio Vehicles
M1A2 Abrams
German WWII Radios
Marder III (7.62 mm gun)
Sd. Kfz. 251 Hanomag
Sd. Kfz. 222
Sd. Kfz. 234/4
Pz. Kpfw. 38 (t)
Panther Factory Photos
Wespe
Duplex Drive Sherman
British WWII Radios
T-34/76

I just hope that the files are compatible with your computer. If not, I suppose I could print them out, translate them into Greek, then send them to you in a booklet.

Dear all guys
your contribution is amazing and i believe that i ll have a modelling room twice as good and complete as i had it before .

To any guys that proposed sending cash , as i stated from the first time,

there is no way i accept any money, so please know that your words of encouragement are enough and healing. So many friends sending modelling stuff, thats what i lost , no cash was burned in there , and for sure i wouldnt be confortable accepting that (i already have problem accepting the other stuff that is coming) .

Know that i ll start a thanks thread to thank any one that is sending his help, so u all know that your gifts arrived safe here .

THANKS A LOT GOOD FRIENDS

Dear Costas,

In addition to what I'm sending you and what we discussed on the PM's, here's some ideas for rebuilding your workroom that others might benefit from.

1. If you are going to use fluorescent lighting for general lighting, there are now bulbs that are 92% color accurate. Not only does it light the room inexpensively, but it eliminates that "sterile"cool white color that can cause eye-strain and headaches.

2. Use verticle space as horizontal space is a premium. I have a peg board door covering my reference library that holds my raw styrene and basswood. The pegboard door swings out and the reference library bookshelf swings back to reveal the space under my stairs where I keep larger wood pieces. I don't think that's any more of a fire hazard than the wooden stairs themselves.

3. I put down a linoleum floor so when little pieces go flying, I can use a flashlight and/or a soft whisk broom to find it. No carpet!

4. I have a glass block window for a little natural light (and security).

5. And I have a sign that says, "NO Gurls Allowed" from Peter Pan.

Now get back to modeling!

The aim of this Group Build is to help a Friend get back to building these (NOTHING ELSE!):

When I originally composed this thread (it took almost 30 minutes to get the wording to work), I was hoping that one maybe two fellow members would respond with an item or two. Gee how I underestimated the members of This Community, I should have had more faith in my fellow members, for this I gladly ask forgiveness!

I tried to ensure that this ‘Group Build’ would not be self-serving, but every time I read through this thread, and Costas’s subsequent posts (with his ever improving spirits), I can’t help but feel fantastic about what ‘WE’ have achieved here. A friend we, for the most part, haven’t- nor will ever meet, needed help and it was given. He didn’t ask for help, it was freely given, now that is not charity, that is FRIENDSHIP!

I also said that participation in this GB would not earn you a medal, but in the military, for an act of extreme selflessness, you are mentioned in dispatches, maybe that can be the case here too.

Unfortunately when someone in an online community is suffering, be it illness, the passing of a loved one or any other cause, we can usually only console that ‘friend’s’ suffering with words and how hollow those words feel to each of us as we type them.

I trust we all know the ‘Serenity Prayer’ in one form or another (regardless of our beliefs)

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The strength to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference!

Maybe this time we got it right?

Dear Savage , and all friends
only one thing to say .
I am a guy that NEVER and i mean NEVER have asked help in my life , cause i always believed that my hands and mind can make it all. Also no help was offered to me for free , as maybe to some lucky mates of me .
Also i was, and surely am, embarashed to receive any kind of help

But the gentle way that all u reacted in that accident , has made me feel totally different on that .

Trying to help people in my life (not only in modelling and in here , but whenever that was possible for me ), had not given me the chance to know how they really feel..
U added a new important experience to my 36 years life, and will never forget this. The prize is that now i really know and understand how important is to help others.

And as for the user of the month...well my shot would be something totally different.
As we proved Armorama is one hand one family one heart. Maybe we could nominate and award ARMORAMA as the UOM. Just a thought !!!!

Wow...

My thoughts and prayers go out to you! It is a real blessing that none of your family was hurt.

You will be building, painting and putting your passion into your work again soon!!!

I mentioned to my wife a couple of nights ago that there was this Vignette she just HAD TO SEE!! It was your MOHAWKS-QUIET PROFESSIONALS piece! I was in awe of it!!

I will put together an assortment of items for you and send it in the next day or so! Soon you and your daughter will be in the DING DING again!

Take care!

Pretty damn impressive, people. There may be some dupes on the list, ie. someone said they were sending something and then posted again to confirm what they where sending. And I may have missed something. Anywho, someone PM the addy. I am going to send along some rollers, paint pan, drop clothes, etc. to get the room put back together.

Again, mighty damn impressive.

Shaun

Costas,

It is all right to ask for help, even though you didn't in this case. No person is an island. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness or unmanly. It is necessary in combat, in business and in life. Shoot, look at my postings asking Armorama heads to help me, even though modeling tips is in a different order of magnitude from a terrible fire.
It is certainly sweeter to experience the outpouring of generosity from known and unknown friends at Armorama, but asking for help when it is needed is no different than those giving help whether it is asked for or not.
Have fun receiving, opening and enjoying your packages. I'm shiping mine to you no later than Friday, September 17th.
Hey, Armorama folks! Is this not as much fun or more than building our own?

Shaun, you beat me to it. What an amazing list and thanks for compiling it!

On a lighter note though , two things I'm sending that I forgot to mention;
A4 Cutting pad and
SMOKE DETECTOR! :-) (Sorry Costas no offence meant, I know it’s a cheap shot, I just had to do it!)

Just showed the list to my wife, needless to say she was dumbstruck! What an amazing community Armorama is!

PS: I believe that postman will be claiming overtime and rightly so! :-)

Truth is, every time I look at those photographs I wonder what would the outcome be if this happened in my hobby room, and a very cold chill runs down my spine! Maybe hiding behind humour helps?

I know I’m not the only one here who ponders this!

DEAR FRIENDS THAT LIST IS SIMPLY IMPRESSIVE. now i have to invest some more on making shelves for storing all these items !!!!!!

Jeff thanks a lot for all ur advice on rebuilding th emodell room ..and not only ...

Dears Savage , well be sure that upon restoring the room , and before re filling it with model stuff and all , smoke detector and heat detector will be fitted. i ve been looking already for them from day 1.

Hopefully here in Greece we dont have gas net , so i dont need a gas detector, or ..should i put one anyway ?.....

Thnaks a lot guys , your help and humor, is deleting this bad memory day by day .

That's what friends are for mate - helping out when things go pear-shaped.
