Tamiya- Tumeeya

Revell- Revull

Fruilmodel- Frool model

Zvezda--I gave up trying to pronounce this a LONG time ago

I'm with hollow point on the first three, Tamiya, Italeri, and Revell, but I've never been brought to the point of having to try to pronounce the other two. I guess I don't go in for the exotic stuff.

ta-mi-ya, long "i"

ruh-vell

ita-leri, like "Italy"

freul-model, yeah I know some of you are saying huh? The pronunciation may be wrong, but if you spell it correctly the "i" comes before the "u". But hey, for all I know the "i" is silent.

vezda silent "Z" at the beginning

My 2 cents,
Mike

Tuh-my-uh (Though my dad says "Tammy-uh")

Ruh-vell

Eh-tahl-er-ee

Th-ah-nck-s for yu-or t-i-em.

Mike - I'm with you on the first three. Paul - you're right with the Zvezda. Finally, it's Froo-eel Moe-dell. In Italian (as in all latin languages, all letters are pronounced.)
Ciao for now

Tamiya - Ta-mee-ya

Italeri - ee-ta-leh-ree - it is Italian name, so no "eye's" here

Revell - like "rebel" just with "v" instead of "b"

Fruilmodel - it is actually Friul with "i" before "u", so Free-ool, but "ee" part is very short. And in Italian it is Friul Modellismo, so "model" is just English version and should be spelled accordingly.

Zvezda - correcly in Russian it is spelled "svee-eh-sda"

Do you know Polish online store "Jadar"? It should be correctly spelled "Ya-dar".

3 - Rev ell (rev a car engine)

I am having trouble with a couple of little outfits outta China.

DML and Trumpeter :-)

Is it duh-mel, dee-mel, duh-em-el or dee-em-el?

and Trumpeter.. true-em-peter, or truh-em-peter..

You'd think a school teacher could figure this stuff out..

How about: Ghoti= fish
Does anyone remember the rest of the explaination for this one,
gh from enough = 'f'
o from women = short i

There was also a more ridiculous one about Colonel..

DML = Dragon Models Limited. It is regular English abbreviation, so it is "dee-em-ell".

What a great thread!

How about Eduard? I say it like the English name Ed-ward, but my local retailer says Ed-ju-ard. What's up with that?

Hehehe... I just remembered one local modeler here who calls Tamiya as tam-ya (silent "i" because he thinks that "i"s in Japanese is always a silent letter). :-) :-)

In Czech it would most likely be Ed-oo-ard. Similar to English name, but with "a" pronounced like in "car".
