I learned of his poor health yesterday, and more news of it today. I had a bad feeling that his death would be today and that has indeed happened.

This truly is the end of an era for America and the world.

Thank you Ronny for being there when we needed you.

I liked President Regan and what he stood for - though there will always be someone standing on the sidelines to chuck a rock or two. I was deeply saddened when the TV coverage was interrupted this afternoon announcing his passing. He restored respect, hope, and desire to improve our state of being during some really dark and sad times during the 1980's.

A true American hero. He changed my life in more ways than I can express today. Ironic that his stirring D-Day anniversary speech was 20 years ago tomorrow ... always a showman to upstage the rest of the world in his death.

As Tom Clancy has stated "Ronald Reagan will always be MY President" He was the one that brought us back from our darkest days. He gave us our pride back. Because of him we remembered what it was to be AMERICANS. God rest his soul.

From my viewpoint being an european, he probably was the best US-president the last 60 years - he was one of the driving forces behind the fall of the iron curtain and the breakdown of the Warzawpact.

I remember crossing the German-Eastgerman border 1 month after the opeming, and standing on the Brandenburg Tor at the reunioncelebrations - thats two events i my life i´ll probably never forget.

He changed not only the way americans percived themselves - rebuilding a whole nations belief in it selv, he also changed Europa and made it possible that a lot of people got reunited with there familys.

Cheers ol´cowboy, if there ever is a paradise, you deserve a spot!

MrMox,

Fine comments. Thank you very much for your words.

Just too much this weekend for sad events. Hard to think about it all.

Really, this all marks the passing of a great era. Of which we will not soon see the likes of again...

From a foreigner like me, I admired his charisma and poise. He was branded a cowboy but he wasn't exactly John Wayne but has a style of his own.

I do agree he helped America get back up after recovering from one crisis after the other.

If his spirit would talk, I swear he'd say to every American right now, "win (one more) for the Gipper."

He will surely be missed.

The reason I am a Republican today is due to Ronald Reagan. He made me proud to be a Republican, he made me proud to be an American. Flag waving to Reagan was not a photo-op it was the real deal.

A man of true grit, principles and integrity. The likes of him we will never see again.

I echo the sentiments stated previously. I am happy that he is no longer suffering with his illnesses, but we'll miss his leadership and determination.
Thank you Mr. President for what you've done for this great country.

Reagan was the first President I ever had the honor to vote for.
I was 18 in 1984 and got to help his landslide re-election

Ever since, when in the voting booth - I've always felt like I was just voting
'the lesser of two evils." ... is still evil.

He was great to us, and for us.
A millineum man, there wont be another for generations to come.

May God be with him and his family.

I don't really know what to say. President Reagan was the first Pres. I rooted for( being too young to vote then).
My brother Dan was a Marine at the time, and my brother Matt was in the Army. I had a Bro-in-law in the Navy and another B-in-Law in the Air Force too. We kept our eye on world events due to it could severely affect our family. We had Lebanon, Lockerbie, Granada and the dreaded Soviet Union. It was a tumultuous time.
Ron gave me a certain ease and assurance that my family would be O.K.
I want to say I watched the State Funeral today with an odd facination and sense of loss. I didn't think it would effect me as much as it did until I realized that it reminded me of my brother Dan.
Dan died in 1982 at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in California during a training accident in the BRAND NEW M1 tanks.
He had a full Honor Guard and Military funeral and to this day, when I hear "Taps", I tend to well up.
Watching the funeral for Big Ron today brought back a lot of memories from the 80's including losing my big brother.
But, I find myself as proud of Ronald Reagan as I am of Dan. And...I'll miss President Reagan too.
Dan and Ron are (I hope) are sitting and having a beer right now and watching me write this little homage to the both of them.

And smiling!

Here's to you, Guys
I salute you both

In my book and I think most Americans he ranks in the top 5 of great American Presidents. I'm proud to say I voted for him both times.
