Let's see...

1. A lockable door for my hobby room.
2. The sign outside that say, "No Gurls (sic) allowed!"
3. Rolling Stones CD's.
4. A wonderful wife who supports my obsession.
5. Armorama!

Bulldog clips in various sizes - make shift clamps
Ladies nail file boards - sanding.
Nail polish remover - can take away excess filler from resin. Not sure about styrene.
Plastic Business card boxes - great stand for semi completed models.
Blu-tac - dry fits and small part holder when painting. Makes a good mask too.
Silver fine marker - easier than paint on some "ally" parts.

I'm now up to three pin vises, and sometimes I think about buying a fourth. In addition to the three mini's, I bought a large (1/4") hand drill vise that I use as a general-purpose hand vice for tubbing, brass rod, etc. It's great for holding short pieces of brass tubing while deburring -- easier to use than a bench vise, and the three Jacob's jaws mean less stress and marring on the part.

I cant live without my little flashlight becouse i drop everyting else, and thats when mr. flash comes in

This is something i have added to my toolbox recently and has been a great help. Great when you drop things, good for close inspections, etc.
My main tools are my clippers, sharp knife, worn knife, set of 10 needle files, pin-vise with a small selection of drill bits and a sheet of 600 grade sandpaper. These are the items that do most of the work.
Then is my humbrol putty, aceton-free nail-polish remover, cotton buds, dremmel and pincers.
have loads of other important items but these would be my main items!

I have to say that my #1 tool that I can't model without is my drill press. I have milled more N-Scale wheels and 1/35th scale items that having it has been a very good investment.
My positionable bench vice made for modelers is a good one too.
I also have a magnetic gluing jig that has come in handy many times.
Oh yeah, my NWSL Chopper II is Da Bomb!
My battery operated closet light that is velcroed under my bench! ( This item is the most practable thing I have come up with to date and I urge all of you to invest in one-$2.50 !!!)

I am not going to mention all the givens, we all have them.

You guys really have cool tools. Love the Beer, like the Universal clamp mentioned by Povolo and the multiclamp.

I use old wooden clothes pegs. They're cheap, easily accessible and can be shaped to hold different widths and leave no scruff marks especially if the spring is old. Use it mainly on my figures as drilling a peg in their sole seems too painful.

Another useful "tool" is a piece of 2 cm. thick foam board. I use it to hold my natural wood trees for adding leaves and painting. It's good for sticking anything upright for additional work.

Lastly, I'll have to second Sealhead on having an understanding wife, by far the most useful "tool" which allows us to get access to our real tools including the beer.

1. dental tools for moving small parts
2. tweezers
3. toothpicks for PE
4. x-acto knife
5. sprue cutters (in my case, they're actually an old pair of small wire cutters)
6. Armorama.com
These are the ones that I usually use on most kits and that I find the most useful for building. Now for painting, we won't go there right now.

Well, actually there are two things I would not want to build models without - a stereo microscope or a machine shop! Makin' all those fiddly bits would otherwise be a nightmare.

Those 5-10 turntables you can find at Wally World. You can acually work on both sides of a model with having to pick it up and turn it around. Plus the Hospital i work at. It provides all the hemostats, alligator clips # 11 blade scalpels, and tweezers I could use in 2 lifetimes

for me it's the

MK 1 EYEBALL has thousands of uses like,
is the paint looking good
glue were it should be
finding that effing part on the carpet again
looking for new kits to buy
browsing the internet for allsorts of modelling stuff
finding your way to the fridge for more beers
casting a crital eye on your work
counting your stash and looking for places to hide
new kits before your wife finds them
sniffing out a bargin kit
assisting you in looking for things at work that will
help your modelling and sneak them by the boss
for rolling around youe head when you've cocked up
helping you apply the plaster after you cut yourself
again

Oh yes the mk1 eyeball is a most useful tool

P.s I'm taking out a patent on it before micromart does
