Well I'm very lucky.
My wife Emily is nowhere near as clumsy as I am and the chances of her breaking something is far less than with me.
And she tolerates my enforced building on my knee method...except when I choose to sand or drill out something just after she's cleaned the carpet, without putting a newspaper down.

And she's great with tools...shelves up in no time. I'm thinking of buying her a set of spanners (monkey wrenches) for her birthday, then she can service the car while I'm at work.

Joking only joking...but she is good with hammers and chisels and the like.
My father in law was an electronics engineer before retirement and a lot of it has rubbed off. Very clever man my father in law.

Cheers
Peter

Im one of the lucky ones as well. I have a small model room 2m x 3 m. Perfect for storage and spraying. After I a little chore or two and spend some time with our daughter my wife is happy that I model. She wants me to model in the living room so we can exchange the odd comment to each other, rather than me stuck in the little room all the time. So I model on the coffee table.
I have a cabinet in the living room with glass doors to display what I have. She likes this as well ... it matches the rest of the furniture. The only thing she ever comments is, when I stay up late on friday and saturday nights modelling or painting, fall asllep on the sofa and the coffee table is clattered with sharp knives, thinner and paints. Our daughter is almost 3 years old and gets up early, and being the curious type, would be inquisitive. So this is the only thing I make an effort to avoid as I wouldn´t forgive myself if anything happened to her, through my carelessness. I believe a little give and take from both sides is needed.

She who walks on water only cleaned up my modelling area once(the kitchen table) I was building a stug4 for the t.d. campaign it was at the painting stage, so she put it back in its box and put the lid on it, noticed lid did not fit pressed down on said lid need I say more Johnny Wilkinson could not have drop kicked my stug4 any further down the garden than I did, I am a slow modeller, two months of work up the swannee. We have an understanding now. :-)8

I do not have a workbench, but I do have several clear plastic bins to keep my tools and supplies in. Last week she who walks on water came up with the idea to add a series of shelves in the closet in our computer/erercise room. Her reasoning for this was to get the bins off the floor, kitchen table, bar or wherever I last used them. I have been off work for the last four months recovering from an injury so I tended to make a big mess in the house while she was at work. She knew I was going stir crazy sitting at home so she did'nt really say much. But I go back to work in three days so I have to clean up the mess She has been really supportive with this hobby though

Maybe we should have a role of honour or something for our nearest and dearest.
Our long suffering girlfriends and wives deserve a mention for putting up with us.
Bless 'em all.

Glad to hear Im not the only one that has this bad habit, Peter. I dont start anything big during the week as I have to get up early the following morning and commute to work. I leave these for the two weekend nights where I can get a lie in afterwards.
As lond as Im not the only one that has this habit, the wife might actually believe its acceptable! #:-)

could i just hop in and say that my partner is pretty good with me and my modelling habits, but as a rule she doesnt like to tidy them up and prefers me to do it, because she knows that ive spent alot of time working on them. I try my best to keep me clutter to one side if i can, cos we have a good relationship balance in that we try to respect each others interests and keep our home how we both like it. (btw toddlers and pets are definately the anti modelling monsters!) keep your kits safe & tidy and your missus will appreciate it!

Plastic, I'm also there til the we hours building, painting, and filling. Anne seems to understand when I do it. But last night she was til the same hour playing video game on the computer, and yelled at me when said it was time for bed at 3AM in the morning. Saying that I do it on a regular basis. Oh well, guess I can't win for being curtious and letting her know it was 3AM. On the other note she has 2 or 3 models of her own she never builds, I comment rarely, but she is always riding me about 150+ I have in the closet. Is this one fair. STUG

and last thing; your ''modelling and wives'' topic is one of the best topics i have ever seen in Armorama. something like two darlings..a modeler can not live without them and they hate each
maybe it is time to have a forum for modelers wives here in Armoarama so they can talk and see maybe feel better.your problem is not a personal but a worldwide problem.
bestest regards.
it was our honor to have you here.[/quote]

I would like to thank everybody responding to my message and especially graywolf for his sweet and kind words. I'm sure Mark and I find a solution but it was fun to read all those reactions and different point of views. Thanks.
