Hey everyone,

Just got my ass back home from the Leader's Training Course! For those who don't know thats like Basic Course for U.S. Army Cadets. We were training with the 1st Bn of the 46th Armored Infantry Regiment - The Professionals

It was alot of fun. We got to shoot the M16A2, M9, M203, AT-4, M249 and M240. We also did two days of Land Nav, RB-15 training, Survival Training, Water Survival, 6 day FTX and of course lots of D&C. No tank rides though

Even the Drill Sergeants were cool with us (at least when we were straight).

Looking forward to joining you guys again!

Cheers,

Sounds like you had fun. I always thought weapons training was the best bennie in the Army. I could have spent my whole career at the range, if they had let me.

Did you spend any time on Agony and Misery? A couple of finest pieces of topography I've ever humped. I went through Basic Training at Knox back in 1977. The closest we got to the tanks (they were M60s back then) was when they drove by and we had to choke on their dust and diesel fumes.

BTW, I have it on good account that the red dirt at Fort Knox is exactly the same color as the red dirt of Vietnam, for what it's worth. "Don't wash those trousers ... they're reference!"

Don't know about agony and misery, but we had our fair share of that in officer training. We had Five months of training from rookie to lieutenant, and then we had seven months of "real" military service. Lots of s***, but LOTS of fun, too ! Though ALL of us hated being drafted on day one, most of us look back at those days with a broad smile. Hard to explain to someone who never clawled through the mud on his belly and had to perform drill instructions with the same boots (all shiny) the same afternoon. Beer never tasted so good.

Reimund,

Congrats and welcome back. I guess you get Ft. Bragg and Fayette-nam next year! Beware the tick and chiggers (or chicks and tiggers)!
