Hello there!!
I just finished moving to my new home and now that I'm unpaking, I have found the only five models I have built completly destroyed. My wife did the pakcing while I was at work and it seems that she thought the models were made of real steel. Any way, I have learned not to trust my models to the lady again. A good thing of this is that in the new home I have a big room only for me and my models.
Regards
DAnmo

Hi, I only lost two models on my last move so I considered myself lucky. Dropped a load of book on top of a box that contained these models. But even though the models were scrap, the Fruilmodel tracks on them were no worse for wear and were put back for other , newer kits. So, all it all, I came out pretty good on it.
Take care, Sgirty

Thats always a heartbreaker! I learned the hard way to. The last time I moved, I made one special trip with all my built models in the back of my pickup truck. No box's, I just drove realy slow !
My condolences,

Awww.... that's bad! As with me, I never ever let anyone touch my models - even let anyone to clean them. IF ever that happens, I'll go nuts!

Divorce her...life is too short and models are too time consuming to ever have that happen again. Find a younger wife that you can train.
Now, if you don't mind I have to do the dishes and take out the trash and make the beds and clean the bathrooms and feed the kids and do the laundry and clean the kitchen after making dinner...I do all this so I can have a few minutes to "play with the computer and my models"
hehe

Well at least you still have your models (even though they may be in hundred little pieces). My wife threw out one of my favorite dioramas when we were moving into our house. I still feel the pain whenever I look at the photos of my precious little project...

As Matt said, rule number one is never let anybody TOUCH your models. Especially wifes. If you fail to follow rule number 2 then by all means it is perfectly fair to explain that the quilty party must replace the broken items. We'd be happy to provide you proof that ALL models cost at least $75 USD.

hi Danmo,
sorry to hear that but I learned that;
Broken models can be fixed with small efforts and costs ,but broken wives are hard to fix and it costs more and more.
Models and modelling areas must be private for modelers.I dont let others enter to my modelling area without my permission. I have this decision since the lady who comes to clean our house thought the pastel chalk weathering as dust and cleaned all my dioramas years ago.As you see most of us have the similar bad experiences but we are still alive.
I wish you HAPPY MODELLING in your new room.forget the past and enjoy the future

While I packed mine, at some point in the moving process, I had a whole box of built ups get turned upside down. Luckily, they were all car models and each one was in it's own acrylic case so there was no damage to any of them. However, I realized how much this hobby sucks when you have to move it, but like yourself, I was awarded with a huge new model room:

Must be that your painting and weathering are very convincing!
There is the threat of bodily harm in my house if anyone even thinks about handling/fingering any of my models.
Sorry to hear mate...

Wives.......worse than cats when it comes to kits and destruction.
My dear wife damaged but did not destroy several kits in tragic dusting accidents
easier to replace a model tank than a less than model wife! :-)

well I heard that one time, a guy REALLY ticked off his girlfriend, and when she left, she put all his dioramas in the way of her tires out of the driveway.
at least your not that guy!
best wishes!

With 18+ years in the military I have become a pro at packing and moving models. I always have at least three boxes the movers mark with "Packed by Owner." And that 'owner' is me, not my wife, not a friend, not my parents, ME!
Now for a possible silver lining--at least you will have a ready supply of spare parts in the scrap bin for future kit modifications, scratchbuilding, or extra detail!
Model on!

The movers delivered my household goods yesterday, the boxes for my models (packed by me) all look to be in good shape, but coming from overseas back to the states, it's hard to tell what kind of rough treatment it's been through. Our mattress and box spring were ruined, but I'm hoping my models have survived. Now I just have to get everything else unpacked before the wife will let me open a single model box...

Hey Danmo,
I know how you feel.
The last move we made I had instructed everyone not to touch the models! Everyone but my sister who stopped by to help while I was taking a load to the new house. The load I was taking had all the armor models. Well, my sister proceeded to put all my 1/48 airplane models in a box and proceeded to stack the good china on top of them. Destroyed 14 models. I haven't built an airplane since!

Hey LemonJello--our wives may be long lost twins! After 18+ in the Air Force we have made many moves and my kit display case is the last piece of furniture to be assembled. The boxes with my models stay stacked in a corner or a closet and I am not allowed to touch them until the last picture is hung. It is hard to concentrate on hammering nails while wondering how the models faired in the move...

My last move I moved them myself and only a few of the small pieces on some got knocked off. I had a really big move from Alabama to Texas in 1989 when my focus was 48th scale aircraft. Still have two to rebuild...a P-61 and a P-47. It might be aother decade before I get around to those, building planes just isn't fun for me anymore. Like ships ad tanks. Of course Lord help me if I ever have a big move again with all those 350 scale warships. the Big move I only had the Yamato which I transported myself.
