I walked into my local Proto Auto Store today and found dental picks and probes on the counter for $1.95 each. Quite a bit cheaper than they are on the model shop sites and just as good.

Thanks for the tip. Another place is Harbor Freight, if they have any in your area. They also sell sets of dental picks, I think about five picks, for about $5.00. They also haves sales at least once a month. You can check out www.harborfreight.com to see what they have. I get things like clamps, picks, files, my handy hands , my magnifier visor, at Harbor Freight all the time. They're not well known but worth looking for.

I didn't even think to look there. I was looking at their rolling mill for making lead foil cheap and in mass.

Wow. Never heard of Harbor Freight until now. There's a store about a 1/2 hour dirve from me.

Here's a great set that would get any modeler a great start on a tool collection:

I get mine from my dentist. He occasionally has one that has broken (and I don't want to know how he did that!) and puts them aside for a couple of us patients who ask him for them. (That's one way to make sure that we come back for our regular checkups!) :-)

What a truly fascinationg little machine ?! What wonderful things we'd be able to make if modeling was our professional occupation and we could afford to use toys like these...

I get all my supplies from 'Scientific & Chemical Supplies Ltd." e-mail : [email protected],
Scalpel blades are unbelievably cheap, a half square metre of lead sheet was only £4.72, a box of disposable (1500) pipettes only about £12, and I've seen these on sale at Telford at £1 for 5! Check the mark-up on that one!

Hi Teacher

Thanks for that link. :-) It's good to see a source for cheap supplies in the UK too.

All the best

For that rolling 'Mangler' looking device.....couldn't you use a 'Pasta maker' to accomplish the same thing?

For those interested in Harbor Freight be sure to get on their mailing list also. They have monthly sales and send out flyers. My wife and I look over the flyer every time it comes out and usually find something that neither of us can live without.
