That is as a kid? I have fond memories of the Monogram F9F Couger and the Panther. There still my favorite Jet fighter! Then there was the Aurora Battleship Missouri. (I miss those old Aurora kits!) And I remember building the 155 mm ? Longtom Artillery piece, I want to build this one again! This was all back in the early 60's, I was about 12 years old then. Oh the Memories !
Cheers, still a kid!

The first kit I ever owned was the Revell Bismarck, I had to have a neighbor make it for me. I vividly remember having the Revell Mephis Belle, B17, hanging directly over my bed. The first armor kit I remember making was small scale, 1/72 probably, German Assault Gun. I remember a lot of kits, the MBT 70, Sweedish S Tank, Tamiya Pz II, Revell Lancaster Dam Buster, it's like reliving my childhood.

My first model was of a little Stanley Steamer car in I have no idea what scale. I built it at the Day summer camp at the elementary school in Osprey Fla (1957). I think I was 8 at the time. It was all it took to get me hooked. Now I am 55 and still building.

I don't remember which one was the first of these two, but one was a Dodge Charger by Monogram (I think) and the other kit was a balsa wood triplane that I picked up at Toys R Us. Both of these were done with my father when I was about 5 or 6 years old. After that I built cars for a couple years, followed VERY briefly by ships (that was a mess), then planes for a few, and then after a little too long away from the hobby I have turned to armor, which I have found to be the most enjoyable of the bunch.

For my 8th birthday my Dad bought me a Sherman tank and a Spitfire. I don't remember the company. Back then, but what I do remember was I knew nothing about building the things. I just started putting pieces togather on them . I actually used elmers glue on the Sherman til my Dad found out there was a special glue that went with them.
Didn't take me long to get them togather and have the Spit start bombing runs on the Sherman and droves of army men in the backyard.
If he only could have seen the monster he created with those two kits he would be laughing his head off today.
Ahhhhhhhhhh the memories of childhood.

I got myself an Italeri 1/72 F-117. Too bad it didn't make its way. Then came Gundam. Succesful in terms of building it. I still have my 1/48 Airfix Panavia Tornado and still in progress. My first successful (good enough for a newbie) is my Airfix 1/48 Sea Harrier.

Hi all,
I was around 5 years old when my dad got me my first kit. An Airfix Spitfire in pale blue plastic. I think now of how I enthusiastically butchered it. No paint...oh no. Glue and finger print camouflage scheme. Decals, I remember simply cutting them out with kitchen scissors and gluing them with the backing sheet direct onto the kit. What?...I'm supposed to wet them? Well they stayed put and stood up to the flying around the garden, with suitable noises that only children can make, that celebrated its completion.
My first big kit was the Airfix Sunderland. My mother helped me build it...she was into home grown cosmetic jewellery...so doing the fiddley bits, it came in handy.
Cheers
Peter

I built the Aurora 48 scale tanks and airplanes to play with, also the Revell battleship kits of the Iowa, KGV, Bismarck, Arizona. Got back to the states and did some 72nd scale planes until I discovered Monogram.

I remember getting my allowance (50 cents) and running to the 5 and dime store to get one of these Lindberg airplane models.
I think they were only 39 cents or so because I always had money left for some candy too!

If I remember correctly, though it's a long time ago lol, my first kit was a 1/72 Spitfire, one of those little gift sets with a tube of cement and little bottles of paint (can't remember the manufacturer). I was 8 or 9 at the time.

Mine was a 1/72 Airfix F6f-5 Hellcat, painted in overall gloss blue, canopy included. I was 4. My second kit was a 1/700 Japanese Destroyer somethingKaze. Dad did all naval subjects, so there was my foundation.

The first kit I remember building myself was a 1/35 Sherman "Calliope," I even made some attempts at battle damage. No paint, just the olive drab plastic. I think it ended up as target practive for my bb rifle, as most of my early projects seemed to end up on the firing line.

My first kit was a Lindberg 1/72 scale P-47 molded in gastly blue plastic. No paint, just tube glue-fingerprint camoflage. My first attempt at decaling went poorly for some now forgotten reason, so I remember making new markings out of masking tape and crayons (not bad for a 7 year old, huh?). My first armor kit was an Italeri Leopard 1A4(I think). It also had fingerprint camo and bogie wheels that didn't quite line up correctly, but I was one proud 10 year old when it was done. I was even more proud of my marksmanship with my new BB rifle a couple of years later when I shot that thing to pieces.

My dad and I built a 1/48 Revell TBF Avenger when I was about 5 or 6. We never painted it but we put the decals on it and it was pretty neat. I still have the model but its broken in many places.

Back when I was 6 or so, I remember building an Italeri Leopard 2. Don't remember how it turned out though... or what happened to it. I think it turned me off on modelling though, because I don't remember building anything else!
What brought me back into the hobby (practically starting anew because I didn't remember building models when I was younger) was a Revell 1/48 Apache I got at the Museum of Science and Industry about 6 months ago. I didn't paint it, and there were seams and glue stains all over, but it was enough to get me (re)started on my modelling addiction! :-)

When I was 9 or 10. Don't remember the brand, and it went out of business decades ago.
It is a 1/72 tank by a Japanese company, consist of a dozen pieces and you just snap these together. Don't remember which tank it was, should be something like a post war US one.

I got my first kit back in 93 after i had been the to RIAT at Fairford which was 75th Anniversary of the founding of the RAF. The kit was Airfix's 1/72 Mossie NFMkII. I look back on it now and think how bad it was, but it is what got me hooked and i haven't looked back.

Well The first kit I've build was an F14 Tomcat ( I think it was from Hobbycraft), back when I was 15! I took one or too days to build it, and I've used UHU glue, and of course a few days later the plane started to dismount itself :-) :-) :-) I didn't even had time to paint it
But well It was a first experience and I wasn't into the spirit of building models, so I never touched another model until a ffew year later I've build U.S.S. San Diego( from Matchbox), again in one day, but this time I've painted it... All in two days... You can imagine how it turned out! This one last a few years forgotted on top of my wardrobe, accumulating so much dust that I threw it to the garbage some day!
About a year ago, when I found this GREAT Website, I bought a Ticonderoga missile cruiser class vassel (an old kit) and I've built it with time but It was my first attempt in a long time, it was just to start feeling the taste of building models...
Since then, and seeing that I'm more into dioramas and armour, I've made my first diorama and I'm working on three models now... I'll hear from me soon
See yaaa

My first one (built and painted) was a german Sturmshutz, not sure if Tamiya or Italaeri.
It was back in 1979 and I was 13.....I was moving, with family, from city to country and the old woman living in front of us bought it for me as a "goodbye" present.
It was the first one I painted....with an incredible bright green Humbrol enamel...and painted gun gloss black!
I rememeber I used to buy Airfix planes, but, after building them without paint, I used to burn them and throw them from balcony to my back yard! :-)
ciao from snowy Italy!!

Around 78/79 I got a 1/72 jet plane of some sort which clicked together and had sticky back transfers, and also a figure on horseback, Napoleon I think. It must have been 1/16 scale?? then every year for christmas i got models of some sort or another. Around 82 I got tamiyas horch and flak 38 and their observation group. I was sold after that. Funnily enough I stopped for 15 years then and when I settled down and got married it was the first thing I got interested in again. The come back model was Academy 120mm Abrams. Have been modelling for 3 whole years now!
