I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this. Who else buys themselves at least one item in December and call it a Christmas present to themselves? This would Personally I just bought the AFV Club M18 Hellcat of my friendly local hobby store's discount rack for $24.00, $7 off their usual price. I might even wrap it up and put it under the tree for myself.

I do. Any money spent by the wife or younger kids for a present basically comes out of my funds any way. My 15 year old works as a bagger in the commissary on base, she usually gives a nice present using money she earns on tips. My 18 year old works there as a cashier (around $9 an hour) and he gives nice presents as well. I usually grab a kit for myself and toss it in the stocking from Santa.

Well, Im not proud of it, but is either that or to be good and behave for a whole year. And that really isnt an option.

I usually buy mine after Christmas. That or I give the wife explicit instructions on what kit(s) I'm interested in. She knows enough not to substitute.

I did . I've bought a Tamiya#35227 which is an "Initial Production Tiger I" :-)
I know it's an old one, but it was always one of my favourites.
So, i'll enter happy to a new year (I hope !)

Hi halfyank. You got a big bullseye on this end of things. The people who buy me stuff say I'm, with out a doubt, the toughest person on their lists, as I do not go in for normal things. Who's normal anyway? And who the h--- wants to be?!!!! I kind of pride myself on being ab-normal (which if you knew my family tree, isn't too hard to do, as most of it is built right into the gene pool, at least I think there's a gene pool in there somewhere).

They nevertheless ask, and I rattle of books, models, guns etc. and they just roll their eyes. First off, they can't afford the guns, so that's no problem; second, they would have to know my complete list of books in my 'library' to know what I have already before they could make a sane, logical choice in this category, and models, (!) Well, if you want 'eye rolls' this will do it for sure.

So this year I came up with the prefect solution. I did my ordering at the local hobby shop and book store and went last week and picked them up and when I came in, I just dropped the bills down on the table and said: "Take care of this please, Merry Xmas." No problem. I don't know why I didn't think of this before now.

Of course I didn't break a cover or open a box, and won't till Xmas morning, so the surprise is still going to be there for me anyway.

Take care, sgirty

I occsionally rationalize a purchase as my Christmas gift (or birthday or anniversary) to me. But the rest of the time I just treat me really well and let someone else worry about the reason.

My wife gave me a list of presents she wanted for christmas and asked if I would give her a list...
HA! so I did, with the manufacturer, the modelname, articlenumbers and all nicely categorized...
Now let's see what and how many santa will bring... :-)

I do without looking at any other post.
I still am deciding how good I have been this year and what I deserve to get my self.
Too self centered you say but I have been good!
Thinking of the Iwata and maybe the loki as two possible ones. (++) (:-) (:-) (:-)

On Saturday morning i ll take a big ride around the hobby shops. I mainly plan to buy many kits as a present for myself but small ones, i mean figures and accesories, as i have a lot of unbuild armor and afvs, so what i need is the extra stuff for my dio's, as well as many materials i need paint and stuff like this .But before all this i ll go for the presents of my wife and lil daughter (:-)

After all, it is a perfect excuse to buy a new kit and it doesn't even have to be justified.

Usually I find under the tree something "hobby related" so it's not frequent for me to buy kits in this period of the year...

The old holiday excuse. Count me in.

My associates gave me a gift certificate for VLS instead of tickets to the dinner theater as they have done in the past. Let's see... a night out with the missus to see a cheesy comedy with Don Knotts, who must be 125 years old, or more toys and an extra evening to frustrate myself in my model room?

Happy Holidays and here's to frustration!

Around christmas time I allow myself a bit more to spend...
This year, it was : 2 eduard WW1 planes in 1/48th scale... 4 aber PE sets... skybow M38 with 106mm RR, AFVClub Wiesel, URAL truck from OMEGA, scorpion from revell... 2 large scale anime figures !
I must say that a lot was found on ebay at good prices...

And I gave my girlfriend a list of kits that would be great for a present. Now, the surprise is : which one is she going to choose ?

Then, for something like 6 months, I'll be allowed VERY LITTLE expenditures on models because some more important things will have to be paid for... like a coming WEDDING !!!

Congrats and good luck on the incoming wedding, PenPen! :-)

As for Christmas gifts for me from me, I might find a computer game to get myself, but I am definately buying the Alien Quadrilogy on DVD for uh..... reference purposes?

No models, I've got enough of those for the free time I do have.

I pretty much buy model kits year round so when I do buy myself a Christmas present its pretty good. Of course I haven't worked steady in two years so it's been a while, but 2 years ago I got my self a real nice DVD player. In 1995 I bought myself a brand new Mustang GT...the real deal not a kit. Next year assuming I get fully and gainfully employed I want to lavish my family who has stood by and helped me the past couple of years

Well, as my birthday and Xmas are only a week apart, and it's unlikely anyone else will be buying me a new kit, I decided to treat myself. I have the new Dragon Firefly winging its way from HLJ. While it may not arrive in time for Xmas, it should get my New Year of to a good start.
