Just wondering if there are any known famous modellers out there (maybe lurking on this site even). By famous I refer to famous for other reasons, such as actors, musicians, etc?

Cheers

Kurt Schilling the Cy Young Award winning pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks is an AFV modeller. A year or so back when the Diamondbacks were in town, and had an off day, he showed up at the local hobby-shop to check it out. I wasn't there but heard about it from a couple of guys who were.

Hi almonkey

Most definitely :-)

Join the club... my Andy Williams contribution dates back to Scale Models, somewhere about 1973...!!! :-) :-)

Ah Tiswas.... those were the days!!!

All the best, and wearing my anorak with pride...

There’s a very old thread on RMS about this topic. You can pick it up here:

RMS post

It mentions, among others, Clint Eastwood and John Belushi.

Michael Gross is a big time railroad guy. I work for Walthers, the train company. Michael Gross is actually the spokesperson for "The World's Greatest Hobby" campaign ran by Kalmbach, and backed by Walthers and other manufacturers. He toured Walthers last year, and seemed more excited to be here than we were to have an actor here. LOL He's a very warm and genuine person. We've also had Rod Stewart here. He's a big time train guy. I've heard John Travolta is as well.

Which reminds me New Zealands own Rachel Hunter has done quite a bit of modelling....

Saw Gary Newman on the Brit 'Top of the Pops' the other week with some weirdos. He looked like he was still wearing the same mascara.

The producer of the Betales, forgot his name, is also into trains,, both the models, and the original. Supposedly he also has a lot of models in his office. And as he said:" With a lot of these artists comning into my office seeing my models, most of the conversation goes about them, and when I mention I have the real ones as well, that is all that is talked about." names he mentioned: Rod Steward, Bruce Springsteen, George Michael, IIRC Elton John...

I'm a legend in my own mind. Does that count?

Probably not.

Ever notice all the car models on the home set of the "Home Improvement" sitcom? The IPMS Journal used to give regular updates on whose models were showing up there. Apparently, Tim Allen (Tim "the Tool Man" Taylor) was quite a car model nut and chose some of the best to appear on the set.

Seems I remember years ago that Garry Trudeau, the Doonesbury creator, co-authored a book on diorama modeling.

I know that Queen Mary (of England) was famous for her lust for miniatures. She even had a record maker build her a working phonograph with records that was only an 1"X1".

Rob

PS It was Jim Belushi who did car models, not his brother John.
