Well it took a little longer than I had planned, but we finally have a new subscription plan to replace the very out-dated A-Guard program. The new subscription program is albeit a little shy on features at the moment and there I already know that yes, the only people that will be signing up are those wishing to help me be able to afford to send my daughter back to school this fall.

But rest assured we will be adding more bells and whistles to this option namely that I will be building an entirely new way to store images on your account and use them in posts, etc. It will likely be something very much like what Facebook users have today.

That won't be the only feature by far and I will be working on other new features for the entire community. For one I am tired of those doing buying and selling on the site not having the tools they need to see what someones reputation online is. This won't solve all the problems in that area I know (as even good sellers/buyers go bad sometimes), but it should make it easier to see feedback for recent trades, etc. And no it's not going to be ebay for modelers. At least not at this point.

To get info about subscriptions just login and click on your username in the upper right of the site.

Cheers,
Jim

Lol Dave. Yeah but don't you end up drinking that daily? I'm lucky to have Starbucks once a week or more.

Jim,

What will happen if you've been a subscriber, loaded about 100 MB of images, and lapse in your subscription for a month or two (say, I was delpoyed on MIL duty)?

I'm thinking both sides of:

1. I'm the subscriber and what happend to my images (do tey just go "poof"?)

2. What will happen to all of the posts that others may read that had links in them to my images after I'm no longer a subscriber (do they turn into red Xs?)...

Can't answer those questions for Jim, but I do know that one of Jims pet peeves is the dreaded red X's showing up in threads. Always has been.

That's a good question Jeff. There is nothing setup to delete the images from the server so they would still be there. At some point I would probably have to start doing some image/disk space maintenance, but I would foresee at least a 90 day window where you could move the images or resubscribe.

Cheers,
Jim

Daily my order at Starbucks is
1. Venti drip
2. Venti iced americano 2 pumps white mocha with 2 sweet & lows
3. Venti ice black tea - unsweatened
4. tall 1/2 calf americano with steamed soy (unless it's hot- then it's iced and not steamed soy).
5. One double shot energy drink.
sometime - 3 scones maybe 3 birthday cake donuts... just depends.

So - how's that work - for me or against me?
200MB is nice, good feature, nice to see it coming to life.

One request from Europe/Germany:

Could you expand the PayPal account a bit so it accepts "Bankeinzug" (automatic debit transfer system) as a second option? As a german I don't have (nor need) a credit card so to subscribe I would need the very common second option.

=====================

As for coffee:

10:00: Big cup from the office cofeemaker (Milk, two sugar)
11:00: Big cup, see above
13:00: Can of tea, earl grey, hot (3 big cups)
14:00: Meeting, at least 2 cups of cofee (I would prefer a Mead Ting like in the old days)
15:00: Can of tea, Assam, with milk (3 big cups)
17:00: Big cup on the way

And around 22:00 I need a huge cup of hot milk to get asleep

I saw an option for giropay and it mentioned specifically German transactions. I have turned this on if that helps.

Thanks,

Hey Jim,
is it possible to maybe add more subscription options?
something like 1 month, 3 month or the likes?

That's what I wondered, can you put in the option to pay for half a year or a whole year? That would prevent people like me from forgetting to pay each month...

Cheers!

Giropay should be the right one. It does not work yet but that maybe PayPal moving along at speed of bank. Will try again tomorrow. If it does not work than I'll interview the online payment gurus in the next office.

I would like a quarterly or even yearly subscription too. Would make things easier for me.

Okay, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. Can anyone please confirm the payment mechanism? I used Paypal and it sure seemed like it was setting up a regular monthly standing payment rather than a one-off, but the thread above suggests it might be only one month at a time? I'd sure hate to have to actively re-up through Paypal each & every month if it can be set up to automatically do it until I tell it to stop...

**** never mind - I just saw on the Subs forum that indeed it does come out automatically without the need to keep topping up!

Hi guys... sorry maybe I didn't explain how it works well enough. These are setup as subscriptions via PayPal. So the $3.49 is automatically paid each month via whatever account you have setup via PayPal (credit card, debit card, bank account).

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim

Cool - signing up is neat and easy. We don't have a Starbucks on the Isle of Wight, but there are several good coffee shops in Ryde if any of you guys make it over here on holiday.

All the best

Wow... I am truly touched at how many staffers have decided to subscribe.

Folks these people already have unlimited gallery space, and I think I know why they (and a lot of you) are opting to do this. Their many hours of work, past and present, are more than enough, but these are very generous guys and they still want to go that extra bit to help support the site (and me!). I am truly appreciative to have such a great group of people as part of this community.

Very sincerely,
Jim
