Did anybody manage to pay without a Credit-Card?

If not then the problem is most likely that PayPal can't do subscriptions for US-Targets without a CC backing it due to the "still valid upon renewal" problem. CC can be checked for "issued till date" data, normal accounts can not. (Renewal works in germany due to different laws)

Question: Can you add a "one year lump sum" payment option? That works even with non-US/non-CC customers. As an alternate a "transfer money to here" option for physical payment would be nice

I am curious too if you must have a CC on file to do subscriptions. I know if your CC expires or you change it your subscription is automatically cancelled as this has happened with quite a few of our advertisers.

I am not against allowing for an annual payment option, but if I do that I will have to add some code to check the subscription data nightly and remove expired subscriptions. Currently it's PayPal that notifies me when subscriptions expire and then action is taken, etc.

So hold tight and I will try to get that working.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim

I've also received a PM question about this. I didn't go for it this time, but PayPal always used to have an option to deduct payments directly from a bank account (as against a credit card) - I assume they still do.

On a different note, I really like the "First 100" badges - they're a neat touch! I missed out on being a part of the early days of the original Armorama, so I feel quite chuffed to be in at the beginning of the next phase of Kitmaker.

All the best

owch,

does everybody has paypal these days??

I have never used it and don't have an acount. does this mean that I am old?

Would it be difficult to allow for yearly payments using mastercard?

I think I will be able to accommodate annual payments at some point. However they will probably still be via PayPal as I need them as a cc gateway. You don't have to setup a complete PayPal account (bank account, etc) to do the subscription or one time payment option. However they try to STEER you in that direction of course vs. just making a cc transaction.

Thanks,
Jim

on PayPal (from the Payment guys, over a Friday beer):

Subscription without a CC works for Bank-Bank stuff so if the target is a bank than PayPal can do it (my employer is a "bank" for that purpose)

It seems to have problems with subscriptions if the money is not backed by a CC. For that purpose we are having our own software that does subscriptions by doing what you suggested (a polling script)

Well I don't buy anything from Starbucks as I think they are too expensive and I use photobucket for ease of use but I do feel that I need to support the upkeep of the site so I'm thinking of subscribing. I do have one question though if I cannot afford the payment (heaven forbid) can the monthly payment be cancelled at any point and if so how do you go about it?

I see you already subscribed Allen (Thanks!) , but yes any subscriber can cancel at any time to end the automated monthly payment. We have an unsubscribe link on the main user account panel when you are a subscriber.

We are now at 52 subscribers!

I just had to add another 500GB of monthly bandwidth to our main server, so having this additional support is really helpful.

Thanks,
Jim

I think it's the least we (normal users, ex-staff members, staff members) can do to help the community and our web place of election

Glad I can help

Just a question. So you saying if I'm already a member of Armorama and I don't do this I won't be able to log on anymore. Also if so and you do sign up is there still going to be areas we are not permitted. And before you kick us off have to give us that don't have pay pal accounts to get one! Thanks Joey

Hi Joey,
Armorama and all our sites will always be free to access. What the subscription currently offers is an upgrade to your account with additional storage for photos, some cool subscriber badges and other tweaks. Most of the current subscribers have joined to show their support for the network and to see what future benefits might come from being a subscriber. And yes there will be some areas that are new and for subscribers (like the Subscriber only forum), but these areas won't stop non-subscribers from getting all the content they are use to seeing here.

There is definitely more to come on that front.

Cheers,
Jim

Well for the hundreds of hours I have spent here, $3.49 US a month is the least I can do support this great site.
