Congrats to Spain. A coworker is in Spain for the running of the bulls so he' s getting to see the excitement first hand.
I've watched more football(soccer) this year than ever before. A couple of questions:
1. Do the players get a big bonus for winning? They get paid by their regular teams so I'm guessing they get paid by their national teams?
2. How many fouls are real? Some seem opportunistic. If the ref is looking your way and you feel a hand touch you and you've got the ball but can't really score then it's time to fall on the ground and writhe in agony. Of course the knee contact and tripping is definitely painful.

Juan,
I've seen the video and I was not referring specifically to the Spain vs. Netherlands match. I only started watching the final some point after half time.
Arbitrator = referee? I don't think the referee was letting the Dutch get away with much.
The English language news I have read mostly condemns how the Dutch played and I surely was not attempting to defend them.
It was just my observation from watching several matches during the whole World Cup. I don't watch any Major League Soccer (MLS) over here. So, excluding the final match, I was looking for a general opinion of real fouls versus 'diving'.
But please ignore my question if you think it somehow detracts from the Spanish team winning the World Cup.

Hello Paul,
the question about a bonus depends on each national football association and what they have agreed with their teams.
Usually they also pay an extra bonus for entering certain stages of the tournament e.g. xy Euros for the semi final.
Spain pays 550,000 Euro per player, German DFB would have paid 250,000 Euro for the title and your US association was willing to pay ~ 587,000 Euros per man and mouse for the Cup.
Your second question about identifying a foul itself and its type is a netherending story.
Basically there are three different types a referee must judge about.
1. Common foul (no card)
2. Fouls = yellow card
3. Fouls = red card
The main problem is that the referee commission of the FIFA did not manage it to set a unique standard.

There actually is a standard but the FIFA hides behind 'human error'
. I apologise for the way some of the Dutch players behaved during the match. Some of their fouls were definately worthy of a red card. HOWEVER, I have seen fouls committed by Spanish players too that simply either have gone unnoticed or simply were ignored. KoSprueOne

Hereby the congratulations then.
Still, I have seen Ramos, Iniesta and Puyol do things that should have been their end of the match aswell.
In fact, Ramos shouldn't have been in the final to begin with, as he clearly stepped on the legs of a German player in the semi-finals.
And why was Villa's slap waived away by the Spanish head of referees, mr Garcia Arranda?
