Im going to start working on a tank diorama. I got the idea from the HBO mini-series Band of Brothers. I have the DVD set and I had alittle bit of time today so I watched the episode called "the replacements". They are going into a city called Nuenen to try to get to a bridge in a part of Operation Market Garden. The infantry goes into the city ahead of the tanks and get into the city without any fighting. A sgt. spots a tank next to a big hey pile. The tank is overed in hey and what not so you cant see it to well from a distance. My question is here.. What Kind of Tank Is It?? it looks like a tiger tank but im not to sure. I have the sherman tank that gets destroyed by it and I have the figures ordered. I just need to know what kind of tank it is.

19D, it's supposed to be a Tiger.

The two Tiger tanks featured in Saving Private Ryan are reproductions built on the chassis of Russian T-34 tanks. Operational Tiger I's are extremely rare, and could not have been used for rigorous film production, let alone a movie in which the plot requires one of them to be destroyed. The T-34 was chosen because of its overall size and barrel height. The reproductions were based on measurements taken of a Tiger I at the Tank Museum in Bovington, England, and were constructed by Plus Film Services. The upper hull and turret were sized to proportionally match the chassis of the T-34. Band of Brothers, the HBO mini-series produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, used a similar construction process to recreate Tiger I tanks out of readily available T-34s.

The most obvious visual difference between a real Tiger I and the reproductions are the tracks, which do not feature the Tiger I's overlapping wheel design. Although the front of the tank features the appropriate machine gun and driver's viewport, these two features are a source of great controversy.
Here's some pics from the movie's version Tiger:

There are actually two Jaguar sets from Kelly's Heroes. As far as I can find out both are out of production. The one Kelly and the Entrepreneurs has Kelly, Big Joe, Oddball, I THINK, and the German panzer commander. There is another set; I think it's called Oddball's Tank Crew that just has Oddball, Moriarty, and the guy in the fez that is Oddball's gunner or loader. The thing is the kit I've seen has Oddball in the German leather coat he traded for when he was driving off in the Tiger. It wouldn't work when he's in his Sherman.

I passed up buying this set months ago on Ebay and I've kicked myself ever since. I need to find a figure with an American leather jacket I can modify to look like Oddball when he's in his Sherman.

Yes - looks like it is an actual opening to allow the driver to see where he is going (the view ports on the T34 and Tiger are in different positions), and that in closeups, a board with a "painted" view slit is put in place.... i could be wrong of course....!

Also - if you are looking for the "kelly's hero's" resin figures, Phil's Hobbies in Dallas had them both just before they closed. Phil told me he has over $1 million worth of inventory he is going to liquidate on Ebay... keep a look out!

I bought the DVD set. Well worth it. I never watched it on HBO and started the series right after I got the DVDs. Very good ....

After eyeing them for quite a while, I picked up the Kelly and Entrepeneurs resin set recently at my LHS and the figures included were Kelly, Oddball, Big Joe and Don Rickles as the Hustler. Unfortunately, no German Tank commander, but as we all know, there is no shortage of those figures from other sources.

Was Oddball wearing the black long overcoat he wore after they traded uniforms, or the brown short jacket he wore in most of the movie? It seems he was wearing the soft hat that was like a flyers hat throughout the movie.

I really want to model Oddball's Sherman and I'm looking for a figure I can use for Oddball when he's wearing the short leather jacket and the flyers hat.

Oddball is wearing the brown leather tanker's jacket. The scene that is modeled is when Kelly Oddball and Big Joe were approaching the German tank to "make a deal". Don't know why they included The Hustler as he was not involved in that scene.

I know their reproductions and copies in BOB,@SPR but at least they tried for an authentic look nothing P...s me off more than watching a war film and the germans have m48,s and the goodies M60's and the germans all look like they just walked off a 1939 parade ground. Band of Brothers,Saving private Ryan excellent got them both on video saving up for the D.V.D's thats my little rant for the week, definatley a tiger in replacements and I rekon the Barrel on the tiger in S.P.R was much to short. got to go gardeners world is on the telly.

guys, this is one entertaining thread. some are on the Band of brothers CD some are talking about the t34/Tiger tank conversions and some others are on Kelly's hero's figures. Let's see, I have been impressed lately with Hollywoods attempt to be more accurate in their uniforms nd weapons portrayals. The BOB dvd's are great, and I saw someone years ago do a great diorama of oddball...post movie depiction
