Hi there

It's quite simple, once you get the hang of it. :-) I'm assuming you've got pics ready as JPEGs .

First, get an account with MSN or Yahoo (or use your own website) - anywhere that offers you some space to store pics. Upload you pics to this space.

Click on a pic to display it and right click on it to show its "Properties". Click/hold and drag down/right over the address (URL) to highlight (the address is often very long and does show completely) and copy it (cntrl+c).

In your Armorama post, type "" - paste your address where I typed ****. That should be it. :-)

As you can see from the long threads in the photos forum (my own included!!) - it can take a while and be pretty frustrating getting this sorted... a bit like learning to ride a bike

Good luck

Good one, Porky. How do spell that red X anyway? hehehe

Actually if you look at the top of this screen you will see a button that says Image Help. It's a very good primer on posting pics into these forums.

If you copy the full url of the pic and paste it onto your post, then after it type [/img] and in front of type [img] it should appear in your post.
Hope this helps

I'd avoid Yahoo, they don't seem to allow posting to other sites. I just use the Armorama MSN galleries or a site called Village Photos at http://villagephotos.com . Unfortunately this is not a free site, if you want to store more than a few small photos.

I agree with ukgeoff, and don't use Boomspeed.com either... I used them previously and now any pics I had posted here are gone because they don't like "Hot linking"...

Red X's are supposed to be pics. They show up for several reasons including: the pic referenced is no longer available, the host doesn't allow hotlinking, there was a mistake in the URL, etc. . .

The MSN groups usually have space for you to store your pics. That's how a lot of people on here do it. AOL and most ISP's also have personal web space you can use if you are a subscriber.

Copy and paste that where it says put.url.here. the go and right click again and where it has the file at the end like jpg copy that and paste that where it say /image.file. But rember you have to host ur pics on the web before u can put them here

He! He!

Sorry about the "red X" in my explanation!!... Of course, trying to type an example made the computer look for picture that doesn't exist... :-)

Maybe there IS something funny with Yahoo... I can't see the pic I did a test with in the Photo forum a while back. I think Scoccia's got it right about the cache (in his Photo forum post) - as I understand it, basically your computer "remembers" the pic and displays it. Everyone else gets the "red X".

You shouldn't have any problems with MSN.

All the best

Yes, it's the cache. You see it, because your browser has already downloaded and stored it locally. We can't see it, cause it hasn't been downloaded yet.

If this does'nt work I'm sorry just practicing.

EDIT:Waterboy, it seems as if your not getting the entire URL address. When you perform the "left" click and hold operation to highlight the URL address, you need to not only drag the pointer to the right but, also downwards. The Propertie's dialog box only has room to show two lines of the URL address, when in fact it's more often close to four. KF

There is one thing to be aware of.
Many places let you "host" pictures. But they may not allow them to be linked on another page.
So I can post a link to my webshots albums, and people can go there to look at all of the pictures.

It failed.

you forgot the / in front of the last img it should be'[/img]'

Oh, and that isn't an image URL, either. An image URL that is being hotlinked will end in .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, or .BMP. There are others, but you rarely see them on web pages.

Here is a known image URL if you just want a known working pic to practice on. It's my siggy file.

I typed the ¨ ¨ before the word ¨img¨ but when I posted the text it desappears. The adress of the pic is the one what appears when I right clicked over the image and then properties. Is that wrong ?

Dang you are too fast. I was just coming to edit my post. It looks like the correct URL, just not enough of it. The MSN Group URL is loooooong, and the properties screen only shows two lines of it. When you are highlighting go past the end and it will scroll the rest of the URL in for you. Highlight up to just in front of the ?.

Here is the complete URL to the pic of the cat in your folder, notice how long it is.

and here is the pic:
