This weekend I continued working on my house. I HATE drywall. While I trudged past my modeling bench, longing to be sitting there instead of lugging freaking drywall, I HATE DRYWALL, I wondered what kept others away from their desks. What hobbies, sports, or other activities do you indulge in that keep you from modeling? BTW, did I mention I HATE DRYWALL?

Hi Halfyank, the main thing that keeps me from modelling is THIS SITE. I'm lucky in that I finish work and am home for 11.00 am so I have all the time in the world to get glueing and painting plastic. Trouble is I have to pass my computer to get to my modelling area. My five minutes checking out the latest posts suddenly becomes a couple of hours after checking out the site and the members' links. THANKS GUYS lol :-)

Halfyank, Do you hate drywall? Check out the picture of what I did last weekend. All the walls in the master bedroom with 8 x 1 knotty pine car siding. 600 board feet... Told the wife I had a model to finish but she didn't care. Keep your chin up. By the way, I hate drywalling too, hence the pine...

Gardening. Which is a hobby for some (like my wife), but a chore for me. I live in California and if you turn your back on the garden, you have a jungle of weeds and stuff. I end up digging a lot of holes for my wife to plant stuff and doing a lot of the manual labor end of things.

But she doesn't complain about the weekday evenings that I spend in the garage working on models, so I can't complain too much.

Job, Kids, House (repair, maintenance, landscape etc...) Tired.... so very tired.... can barely reach for the x acto knife...

Plus, let's face it, some of this modeling stuff takes for ever. I spent 3 hours putting together 4 Hudson and Allen K rat boxes. They look great but whew...

Somewhere along the line, I signed up for the 38hr/day workload. So what keeps me away from modelling?

* Driving the kids about
* Software job
* Continuing to work on my degree
* The House. Gardening. Fix this. Maintain that. etc.
* Planning Significant Life Event (aka Wedding)
* Travel

And finally, when I squeak in an hour or two of 'me' time, I'm usually wiped so I just crank on the 'puter, turn off the brain, and play a little bit of the game-of-the-month.

Keenan, your weathering effect on the boards is nice but you haven't done enough dry-brushing.

For me its either this site, my wife, some good educational programming on the history channel (usually I watch from my modeling table) but the thing that gets in the way most is my damn attention span. There are days I can sit there til my arse goes numb, and other days when I can only sit and glue one part on...then I feel compelled to get up and get out of the house or something. Darn A.D.D.!!!

I guess the family is the one thing that keeps me from modeling. But, it's a choice I make. Just try to "spread the free time around" to keep everyone happy!

For me it is:

  • Study (at least it should be).
  • American Football at least two nights a week.
  • Work two days a week.
  • Friends (usually at least another night o the week).

Now I have vacation, so I have a bit more time at the moment...

After finishing school I figured I'd have plenty of time, but then comes work. I already wouldn't mind being back in school. My obstacles fall in line pretty much with everyone else's though:

New job
Sports
The computer
Fishing

Not necessarily in that order, and for some of those it's not necessarily a bad thing to be kept from modelling.

I'd have to say that my mood is probably the main culprit.

Other than that....

Work (ptui!) and keeping up on the shanty and the vehicles.

Monday to Friday routine
0615 - wake up, bath, brush, put on clothes
0700 - leave for work
0800 - start daily grind
1700 - end daily grind
(optional for fridays)
1800 - arrive home, cook dinner, a few minutes of precious modeling time while rice cooks
1900 - wash dishes, press clothes for next day
2100 - an hour of precious modeling time
2200 - shut eye

Saturday whole day - groceries, movie, drool at stacks in the model shop

Sunday - set aside one hour for mass. This is my only modeling day when I can build for a few hours straight. Goes without saying that I'm a slow builder

Hey! Glad to see another IPSC shooter.

Right now what kieeps me from modelling are two daughter who are nurses and work 12 hour shifts. I'm on medical disability and don't work any more. So since Dad isn't doing anything, lets drop the kids off. So I end up with 4 to 6 grandkids 5 days a week.

Then by the time they go home, around 9 PM, I'm too beat to do much more than turn the puter on and surf the modeling sites.

Then, if I have some spare time, I cast lead pistol bullets and sell them to the IPSC shooters to get money to buy more models.

I might actually squeeze in 8 to 12 hours a week modeling.

Like the man said "LIFE"
