Hi folks, just joined and from looking at this site, a long time in coming. Great site. My main hobby other than fishing and hunting and beer, is miniature figures, usually 54mm. I just picked up a Hobby Fan dio of two US Soldiers behind sand bag fighting position. First time with this type figure (1/35th) Quick question. Any hints on how to fit in the M16 into the hand with out ruining the hands that have resin in them? Thanks.
Larry

Welcome aboard - You can stop looking for a modeling web site - you've found the best. Great people, models, help....
As far as 1/35 hands. What I did to fold an open hand into a fist was take a straight pin and heat it over a flame. Then I let it cool just a smidge. I put it in the guys open hand and slowly applied pressure to the outside of the fingers, gently working my way up and down the length of the finger. Go slowly and test the needle/heat proportions on some spare parts or sprue first.

Welcome aboard Ljr70! Glad to have you with us.
The heat method is one of the better solutions. I afix a thin nail to the end of my solder iron with a metal paper clamp to heat areas like this. The longer and thinner the nail, the less hot it gets. Like Slodder said, just go slow.

Thanks guys. I must have mispoke. In the figures hand is already a grip like piece of resin. I need to carve that out to fit the M1 hand grip into it. Any ideas? I am afraid if I carve, the fings will go!

For the two figures, both are separate from the body. One soldier holds it down and to the right, the other has it up and in both hands, one hand on pistol grip the other on the stock. Here is the dio in question. http://www.jaguarmodels.com/pics/hf520.jpg

Hello and welcome! You like hunting, fishing, beer, and model building? It's like I've found my long-lost twin! As for the hand situation, if the closed hand has the bottom of the grip molded in, you could try carefully trimming the grip and hand until the sit looks natural. Otherwise, the best thing to do would be to VERY carefully and slowly drill out the hand until the gun fits. Any obvious misshaping of the hand should be fixable with putty.

Welcome to the club. As you have found out ask a question and in no time you'll get a ton of suggestions. Most of us have had the same problem as you. I've lost a hand or two in my day, now I use a moto-tool and slowly grind until I acheive the width I want. If I lose the fingers, putty and carve.

Couldn`t say it any better then my good friend Slodder just did
As for the hand.. What I mostly do when I have that kind of thing to do I grab my dremel motor tool and insert a really small bit and then I make a hole through the complete hand (through the grip of the gun of course not like Jezus :-) )
and after that I put the man`s gun in his hand

Hello Larry - welcome aboard. So you like fishing? Freshwater or Saltwater? I just bought this item called Smartcast from Humminbird and am excited about trying it this weekend. Hope you have fun on this site and in the forums.
