Scandinavian Death Metal.
Entombed et al.
Slayer (although my neck won't take it much anymore.. age gets us all in the end..)
Amon Amarth
Just guess what we have in Helsinki playing at Tuska festival this weekend?
Yesterday there was Entombed, Amon Amarth and Carcass among many others, and tomorrow it's Slayer storming the main stage after Nile.
Amon Amarth:
Carcass:
But today it's Kreator, Diablo and Morbid Angel.
Just guess who's got a three-day ticket.

Eethu, I am envious, as I remember seeing some of these bands in Holland, around 1989-1990 in small clubs, where we could get freely get on the stage to head bang with the band, before diving back into the crowd.......... ohh, happy memories.
Bang that head that doesn't bang....

real metal was started in 80 and finished in 90
?????????????????????
If Glam and hairspray is your thing .... don“t mind us!!
Another band Im listening a lot to at the moment, is Swedish band "Mustasch".
Very Sabbath in some ways .... got an early 70s/80s heavy feel, but quite melodic and modern in other ways. Check them out!!

I apologize hijacking this thread for these concert report posts, but I find it hard to not post these.
One thing's for sure, the organizers sure will have a hard time getting a bill as good as this in the years to come. On Saturday the highlights for me were:
Kreator
And...
Morbid Angel
Closing the festival on Sunday there was:
Nile
^ These guys should have played on the main stage instead of some Sonata Arctica...
And the one-hour playing time was over way too soon.
And finally ending the three-day event...

Eethu, you (lucky) swine....
may your ears not stop ringing for another week...
Thanks for the pictures, good to see so many of the old bands still kicking it. I saw Slayer live in Zwolle when I lived in Holland, that must have been around 91-92. That was an awesome concert, I tell you. Like wise the likes of Metallica (Monsters of Rock 92?) , Morbid Angel, D.R.I, Napalm Death are a few more that spring to mind. most of those performed in small venues, where the audience could still get freely on the stage, so much stage diving was order of the day ( or rather night..).
Cheers
Henk

I somehow sense a slight trace of resentment in that comment.
Of the chances of
Andrew Higginbottom showing up on the concert I can't say, but if I happen to spot the fellow there, shall I forward your regards to him?

How about the originals Blue Cheer, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Zeppelin, Iron Butterfly, Deep Purple and on and on. (pretty much all of them around the mid 70's)I even like some of the 80's stuff like AC/DC and Metallica,

After seeing everyone's choices, I repeat mine:
MC 5 (precursor of heavy metal sound)
Blue Cheer
Led Zeppelin
Blue Cheer was billed as the loudest band on the planet in 1968 and they could rip
Motor City 5 (MC5) was a serious kick-a** politically motivated band
Led Zep ....well this goes without saying

Iron Maiden - I took my 14 yr. old daughter to see them last month in Vancouver. They have been my favourite band since I was 14. There's a Vancouver cover band called Powerclown, they play Maiden from the first 5 albums, dressed as clowns. creepy.

(hopefully)
AFV_Rob that top list is all emo man
real metal was started in 80 and finished in 90
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!? Dillinger escape plan, emo? Yup they arent the past its sell by date metal you speak of, but they are perhaps one of the most important metal bands around at the moment, with a completely original and pioneering sound, their album calculating infinity is surely one of the finest pieces of progressive metal ever, its totally mind blowing.
