Hi guys

I come before you tonight with some very sad news. I.m getting old. I hit 42 back at the end of May, but never really thought much about it. Well folks, tonight I was working in my shop, and I needed to pull my magnifing light down just to check on some sanding I was doing. Now I know, thats not that big of a deal. It is when I find myself needing to use my magnifiers more and more these days.
My roomate broght up the topic of eye glasses tonight after I was unable to read somthing she had showed me. With me not being able to see well while building, then having trouble seeing to read . Well, its true its time for eyeglasses.
Whats next ? false teeth, hearing aids, those little blue pills I know this should not be a big deal. But how can I say this Ahhh I DON'T WANT TO GROW OLD!!!!!!!!! I like being young.. Ok , I'm sorry, I just needed to get this off my chest while I could still see the keyboard.

Just remember Harry, growing older certainly beats the alternative.

Heck, I've been wearing glasses since I was about 12. It was only when I started having to use tri-focals that I really started feeling older.

Give it a few more years. You'll find there are worse things than needing glasses. For example the absolute worse thing about growing older, for me, is getting up and walking to another room only to find that when I get there I've forgotten why I went there in the first place. That really sucks.

Harry, I'm old.
had glasses for years,
Have store bought teeth...
I wake up with more face to wash each day, so it's easier just to shave it all in one quick swipe.
And as for blue pills...... all I came say is- like my American Express.....

For old hit when I turned 50 and my oldest grandson ask what I like about being so old. The question didn't make me feel old it was my response. "I get to do naptime over again, and now I look forward to it." My problem is not forgetting which room I was just in, It's more going into a room (my shop) to put up something I left out of place in the house and coming back two hours later. My wife calls this Anthony's Sidetrack Syndrome.

Hi Guys

Thanks guys I don't feel so bad. It still stinks to know I'm getting older, its just easier knowing I'm not alone.
Rodger, you are very right. The alternative to growing older does not sound like too much fun at all.
At least when I walk into a room, I still know why I'm there.

Ask Steve (Barv) about it, he is truly ancient and could give you tips picked up through several centuries.

I used to fret about going grey and loosing my hair,,but not anymore.
Im 42,,or is it 43,,,err,,,,,,,,,,42,,I think,,lol
Ive still got all my own teeth,,but by no means a full set.
I walk into a room and forget why I went in there,,but I laugh about it and walk out again.
My hairs grey,,but that just gives me a distinguished air.
If its too loud your too old,,,but the older I get the deafer I get and the more I crank it up!
Eyesight is good close up,,pretty bad at a distance,,but if its that far away Im not really bothered.
As for the blue asprin,,,no need for those so far.
I get great pleasure from telling my,," I remember the time,,,," stories.
And best of all,,I recently got engaged to a gorgeous young lady who is fretting about turning 29 in a few days,,,
Life is good, and keeps getting better.
Now,,,,if only I could build some decent models,,LOL

Ask your Doctor what fun procedures he has planned for you when you turn the big 5-0.
Hint; "Peek-a-boo!"
And they will be a regular excursion, too!
cheers I guess......

You're only as old as you THINK you are. I'll be 57 in the fall, and I just played a double header in my regularly scheduled softball league this evening.

Now I WILL admit that a collision at the plate is making me fill a bit stiff and sore at the moment, but let's not hear any complaints from you youngsters about being old!!

(Now if I can just remember where I left my glove......

I just blame the light when I can't see things - energy-saving light bulbs

Not so long ago it was a culture-shock to work with people born after the moon-landing, now I get to work with people who've been alive less time than I've been donig the job.

Lampie,

Get a grip you're still only a kid

My last two real top set are about to come out (rugby got the rest)
I need glasses for distance and an optivisor for models
I've got trouble with my ears 'I eard that, pardon' (too many range courses)
My kids want me to grow a beard for Christmas as I look like Santa
and last week some old bloke (67) asked me how I cope with three little kids as he thought I was only 35
(Those of you who have met #1 will know what he means)

Don't worry about it .getting old is an equal oportunities employer.

Cheers

Craig

BTW when are you going to risk downtown Ilson?

Well I will be 38 soon and I feel ancient I have kept fit by lifting weights and running since high school but now the wear and tear is really catching up. I sound like a kettle of popcorn cooking when I get up in the morning and it takes about 10 minutes to get good and warmed up and walking upright. The eye site went when I was a little kid, so glasses are no big deal. Blew the left knee out three years ago fighting with drunk who didnt want to go to jail so that will never be right again either. And chasing a two year old son and four month old daughter around will really make you feel old. Oh well it could always be worse, at least I am not taking a dirt nap yet

Hah! I have been in law enforcement Military, civilian County, State and Federal since 1975. I am 51, wear trifocals and have so for the last 8 years. I have trained dozens of younger officers and in Jan. 2007 My second oldest son (of 5 kids) began training in the same job I started at 18 years ago. One more day above ground is a good thing. I wonder if there is modelbuilding in heaven? There must be.

keep them coming..This thread is making me feel better, nice to know there are other old crocks out there.... You know your getting old when you forget what you had for dinner 2 days ago but can recall perfectly that wild night back in the 60"s..Was lucky enough to be born and live in Liverpool at the height of the 'Merseybeat'. Great days (and great nights)
The long hair went AWOL long ago but is now reappearing in the strangest places Nose/ear trimmer anyone?? 55 now and counting but still have a substantial kit stash and still enjoy painting 55mm napoleonics though the glasses are getting stronger by the month
I am cheered by the fact that my friend Bill in New York is 85,fought the japanese in the jungles of the pacific but is just starting the Academy 350th Titanic with all the Photoetch passengers/benches/windows/railings to go alongside his Tamiya Bismark and New jersey...
Just get up in the morning, talk nicely to any recalcitrant body parts and be glad you don't have to face the next hundred years with it's Global warming/oil shortages/fresh water shortage/wonderful new exotic diseases spreading north, Ad finitum.... I think we had the best time...those great free times and still young enough to enjoy(and master) computers/i-pods/games consoles....The best of both worlds.....
