Thanks to all for the nice words. Hopefully the real promotion to E8 will be here before too long. The board convenes next month and I have the fingers and eyes crossed. Would be a good way to finish my service. Thanks again. "Q"

Master Yoda - Red4 is joking because he actually is an E7 in real life, and he's looking forward to a successful Promoton Board to make E8...

Master Yoda
E before a number means enlisted grade. The number is the grade. E-3 is a private first class. E-4 is a specialist or corporal.

Yeah, but then he'd just be a plain old 19Z5O and no one would know he's a scout. We called them GIBS when they rode in the back of M3 Bradleys (Guys in Back Sleeping)
When they moved to M1025/1026 HMMWVs, they became LACS.

Just kidding Top!

Just a plain ol' 19Z50? I'm hurt, I have far too many letters and numbers behind my MOS to be just plain. Maybe covered with sprinkles but never plain.... lol looking forward to retirement ohhhh so bad. Ya'll be nice now ya' hear? :-)

Ok, I think I get it now. I still miss alot not being in the armed services. You'd be amazed to see how fast recruiters run away from me when the realize I have hearing-aids........

LACS......( Lying Against Comfortable Sofas ) ??........

Back in the late 80s to early 90s, the scout platoon went from a six M3 Bradley CFV to a ten M1025/6 armored HMMWV platoon. When they used M113/ITV and later the M3, scouts always dismounted and humped through the woods to scout ahead since the vehicles were rather noisy or were hampered by the wooded terrain. Once this high-speed platoon was put into HMMWVs, they had the tendency to drive everywhere on the roads. Thus the acronym "LACS" was born, Lazy Autobahn Cruising Scouts, more of a tongue-in-cheek inter-armor branch insult. Kind of like the tankers being referred to as "DATs" or Dumb-Ass Tankers.

Hey I resemble that remark. I am now a C-DAT (Computerized, Dumb Ass Tanker). But that still is better than GRUNT (Ground Replacement, Usually Not Trained), or Ground Hog, what the air cav guys call the ground cav troop in the old air cav sqaudrons (three air cav and one ground cav troops).

Okay - here's a couple tossed around Okinawa in the late 1980's - from my tour in the Air Force:

Zoomie or Smurf - Basically any Airman, with Smurf referring to the standard blue uniform and Zoomie more attached to pilots (outside of earshot) or Airman connected to technical trades supporting flight operations

PIGs - (Pride, Integrity, & Guts) - the nickname of our old Security Police squadron baseball team - and tossed about for SP's in general at the time.

Squid(s) - Naval personnel - all of them who manned the Detachment on a little corner of our flightline.

We also had Grunts, Jarheads, and Gyrines - but I never learned what they actually meant, or what distinguished a Jarhead from a Gyrine. A Marine will have to enlighten me there.

Another one for NBC guys - We always referred to the Battalion NBC Officer and the Company NBC NCOs as "Bugs & Gas"

My Dad, retired USAF Missle Engineer (also called rocket scientist) had a joke:

What is a man with a size 16 collar and a size 3 helmet? A fighter pilot! They used to take those little plastic football helmets with the pencil sharpners inside, camo paint them, replace the face guard with a visor and present them to the dislocated fighter pilots that were attached to Space Systems Division.

Let's not forget my personal favorite nickname for our esteemed Infantry collegues: "Mud Monkeys."

What's the difference between a second lieutenant and a private?

The lieutenant knows he's in charge.
