Two Czech beers spring to mind - Pilsner Urquell and Budvar.

Two excellent British beers (despite being Scottish ) I really would have to give an honorable mention to Spitfire and John Smith's.

In the more 'Scottish' type of beer - the Orkney brewery's products are always worth seeking out..

Here, the beer is surprisingly good with the 'local' beer Estrella Galicia getting an honorable mention. San Miguel on the other hand is produced on a goat farm somewhere in the south...

That must be the same farm where Heineken is concocted....

Sadly, for someone from Wales, I like beers from the London area like IPA and errr.. London Pride.

Oh and Leffe, which isn't.

Fat Tire from Ft. Collins,Co. is still tasty and is much better from the tap when you can find it so. Red Tail Ale is always on my list and they(Mendocino Brewing Co.) have trotted out Eye of the Hawk. as their newest WMD
A local micro-brewery called Schooners puts out delicious stuff on a regular basis also.

Well, that depends on your taste, doesn't it.

However, being Belgian, I guess I have a say in the matter considering that Belgium is considered to produce the best beers of the world. ;-)

At least when you believe the pope of Beer tasting ,called Michael Jackson (no, not the singer), who states in most books he writes that Belgian beer is the top of the world.

He gives very high marks to e.g.:

- Rodenbach Grand cru
- Duvel
- Westmalle tripel

and if you can find it (which is impossible if you are not prepared to go to the brewery and cue for a couple of hours on the first saturday of the month) a Westvleteren Pater.

For the record, one beer mentioned in this thread "Leffe" is also a Belgian beer. It's made by InBev, a gigantic beverages concern that made killing and buying small breweries, replacing the original beer with a poor surrogate and push it onto the market with agressive strategies into its trademark.

Hence, to avoid at all cost, better get some real beer and avoid liquids which state on the bottle "Made by InBev".

Agreed in principle, but leffe brown is a very good beer.

No mention of Guiness yet(where are the Irish Boys At??)

All time favourite - Lowenbrau Octoberfest Beer (when you can get it)

I like a good pint of Deuchars IPA or Bass.

But since it is the summer I think that a pint of kronenburg 1664 is spot on. I also love the samoan lager Vailima and holsten pills. But being a student I will drink any beer really.

I was wondering if it was my memory playing tricks, or the Leffe Blond not tasting as nice (smooth) as it used to many years ago when I still lived in Holland... I'll not be in a hurry to buy it again.
I will have some Duvel, or Westmalle, or Chimay, or Gauloisse (nice, from the Ardennes) or, a very nice new beer, King Cobra. It's the Bottle conditioned version of Cobra, and brewed in Belgium. Sooo smooth.

Lager, no other choice than Grolsh. But only from the Brewery in Enchede, The Netherlands, as the water makes it what it is. The vile brew that is made in England and put in small bottles and cans does not deserve the name Grolsh.. In Brittain, only purchase the Swing top bottles, as they are imported from Enschede...

I had a bottle of this last night, and I concur, a very nice lager indeed.

The best beer? That's easy, FREE. As in "this rounds on me guys", or "its open bar."

I got to go along with Rick though, Fat Tire is really pretty good. For a beer from a much larger brewery I also like Avalanche.

Best? I wouldn't dare be so bold.

I do like "consistently" like:

Guinness

Abita Purple Haze

Tecate

The "best ever" would have to be Newcastle Nut Brown. Nectar of the gods!

I was almost going to write a mega articel on BEST BEER intha world
but as I'm a BELGIAN (land of beer chocolates, criminals, carjackers, tigerkidnappers, pedofiels, and corrupt officials)
I have no idea what so ever who makes the best beer,

there are so many brewery's in Belgium, it's hard to say wich is the best
and if anyone wants they can try over 100 different belgian beers
at a "pub" called "Bierhuis aan de waterkant", wich is located down town Ghent
And for the inbev discussion part
I fully agree with my fellow belgian on this one
Never ever will Hoegaarden "witteken" be the same, as now they "make" it not anymore in Hoegaarden but in some industrial slum in the Wallons (that's the retarded french speaking part of Belgium)

So if you ever read "Made by Inbev" on your "Bud "or your "Heineken"
you'll know who's fat pockets your filling.

Go for traditional made small brewery's
they have the best .

I find that I usually like the micro-brews. There's one in a fish and chips place not far from here. The Troll's Pale Ale is pretty good there.

Anything German actually. I must confess I've never tasted a bad German beer. Becks, Erdinger, and Karlsburger ur Pils are probably my favs. But Stella's pretty good, too, and Carlsberg.

I have to agree with Jamie, When I was in England last year Kronenbourg 1664 became my religion, It was drunk at every available oppurtunity. I am also quite partial to Carlsberg as well. Like Spooky said any German beer is good.

And to follow on from my comments on the worst beer,

The best has to be Chimay (I have to say that as it's the wifes name ) while in the UK it's Bellhaven special or Bellhaven 80 -/-

I've been lucky enough to have sampled beers the world over, but I'll save the best for last.
I've had the aforementioned Fat Tyre, and accidentally crashed a charity event one weekend when my buddy and I wanted to visit the brewery. They were quite accomodating, and we left with several six packs, and their promise of hooking up the whole team. There's a smaller brewery in Colorado Springs called Bristol Brewery that makes some fine customized beers as well.
I've had the Czech Budwar as well, (spelled with the W but pronounced like a V) near Fulda. It was rated second in the world by one source, and first by another (Playboy and Penthouse) while the one picured below was rated the opposite way by both sources, around 1984.
Personally, I liked Asahi when in Japan, and San Miguel after a nice long jungle patrol in the PI, but my all time personal favorite when at home is Tsing Tao, which I find better than any German beer. That said, here is the number one beer in the world, of which we were authorized one liter per night. I don't even know the name of it. It is brewed by monks in a monastery in Kruezberg, just outside of the infamous Wildflecken training area:

I cannot claim this is the "world's best" - I haven't had 'em all, nor have I been (capable of) taking notes, but I've put away my share of beers around the world, plus a few more.

There are lots I like & dislike, but here's my #1
-- Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale.

2nd place goes to:
-- Guinness
