I'm fairly new here, so bear with me if this has been done before.

But I was just wondering whether I'm a "sad case" or in fact a "mild case" as far as my ever-growing collection of unbuilt kits is concerned?

I did a tally-up over the weekend, and following the addition of 2 more Dragon 1/35 AFVs (a Porsche turret King Tiger and the 3-in1 Panzer IV) it now stands at:

AFVs (all 1/35 scale) - 15
Single resin / white metal figures (various scales) - 55
Figure sets (1/35) - 12
Accessories (tank stowage, buildings, other diorama stuff) - 17
Other odds & sods (decal sets, road signs etc.) - 13

That's in addition to a dozen or so projects in various stages of completion.

I do enjoy the "collecting" aspect of the hobby - I just wish I had more time to devote to the actual building and painting side of it!

And finally - and does anyone else's Mrs repeatedly ask "sensible" questions like "why do you need so many kits - why not just do one at a time"?!!

No problem -you're up there pretty well.
I have to many to count. Or at least I don't count them any more. I'm over 200 odd kits from AFV's to autos to sci fi to figures to you name it....

I have a self-imposed cap on the size of the stash. It cannot exceed the century mark. Once it hits 100, I have to build and complete something before I'll buy another. So far it's worked well having been in place over the last year but the DML release schedule makes it tough at times. Current stash is at 97 kits waiting to be built.

Hmmm, have seen this question posed before but have never answered, until a few months ago my stash would have been fairly large but not excessive, however since my step-dad passed away and left me all of his it is now bordering on the rediculous, I am slowly selling off the kits that I dont want but will do a quick count later broken down into ones that I will be keeping and an overall figure later on this evening...

I worked in a hobby shop for 4 year. Sadly I have MANY kits in "cold storage" in my mother's basement... So many, I can't store them in my own house. There must be... 50 plus kits, and another 25-30 figure and accessories.

They span many genre including Sci-Fi, and automobile, but mostly (90%) military.

Doesn't this question come up about once every two weeks? If I were to go and count them, that would be time away from the modeling, and then the stash will never reduce!

Seriously, I have about 60 armor kits, an untold amount of figures sets, and still some planes around somewhere, probably 10 or so.

OK here goes, I ahve only counted the things I want to keep for myself but for every one that I keep there is at least another 2 or 3 for sale, now there is no way I can list everything, I'd be here all night!

Complete kits Armour/Aircraft 350
Figures/Accessory sets (plastic) 200
Resin kits 12
Resin accessories/figures (mainly verlinden) 150
Plaster diorama buildings (again VP) 30
Other accessories ie printed material/dry transfers 200

All figures are approximate but I believe them to be fairly accurate.

And now, back to the building!

I just inventoried everything over the last couple of weeks and put it into a spreadsheet. Here's the kit breakdown:

Armor: 181 (mostly 1/35 with a growing pile of 1/48 and 1/72)
Aircraft: 128 (mostly 1/48 with a small mix of 1/32 and 1/72)
Ships: 10 (mostly 1/700 with a 1/350 New Jersey in the mix)
Civilian Cars/Trucks: 9
Sci-Fi: 5 (Fine Molds Star Wars Kits)
Accessory Sets: 9 (this isn't PE, but stowage, barrels/cans, weapons, etc.)
Figure Sets: 3

Total: 345

The scary part? Complete totals only 23. I did lose a few builds when I moved a couple of years ago, but my wife is right that my buying is out of proportion to my building.

After nine months of being back in the hobby, I've got the following:

24 armor kits (1/35)
3 helicopter kits (1/35)
1 Sci-fi kit (1/72)
8 figure kits (Dragon and Trumpeter)
10 accessory sets (weapons, stowage, etc.)
38 detail sets (PE, resin, etc.)

With only three models fully built and two more on the workbench, I think I have the beginnings of Gunfighter's disease.

I don't feel so out of control now...

The worst part is having to look at these new kits on the market and resist the urge to purchase them. Many of my stash kits are old Tamiya, ESCI and Italeri. I did pick up that new M2/M2A1 from Dragon... What a nice build. The kit practically built itself.

How fast do you think you will be able o build those kits? I figure I have about 5 years of solid building... Given I pop one out about one every 6 months.

Hey Mark,
Like you, my collection borders on the ridiculous too ,
With all the new kits that have been released of late, I've taken to selling my "spares".
Unfortunately, I have a number of all resin kits that have now been done or have been announced by Academy, AFV Club, Bronco, Dragon, Italeri, Tamiya, etc, etc, etc......
I'll never build them all unless I win the lottery, :-) :-) :-) . and start building them 24/7.
And that doesn't include all the conversion kits and figures I have.
Oh well, that's enough b**ching.
Keep building those kits!!
Cheers

I'm guessing I've got around 130 kits in the to-be-built boxes. Unfortunately, they're all stashed away in storage since I'v been moving about the country for about 4 years now.

Figgy's are in the parts organizers off in the middle right of this pic (along with Weapons sets) the accy sets are in the parts organizer bins off to the Left....

That is strange you have so many of the same model?!! Fx. 4 Centurion kits?

Anyway my stash is around 25 kits and I thought that was a lot. You guys are even more shopaholic about kits than I am. :-) :-)
