Hi

Help

This is a question for modelers in the UK.

I am having real trouble locating this and I was wondering if anyone knew of a supplier in the South East. or a supplier on the web that is reliable.

Thanks in advance
Brian

I believe it is called Johnson's Kleer or Clear over there, and you can normally find it in the grocery/food markets stores by the floor waxes which is what it is.

Dave's right; it's Kleer, and DIY places are likely to stock it.

Brian,

Tescos, Somerfields, I guess you can figure the rest and just find Johnsons Klear.

I got mine from Tescos about 2 weeks ago in East Anglia

Hi Brian,

The important thing to remember is: Johnson's Kleer is FLOOR POLISH!

If you're still having trouble, give me a shout and I'll get some for you.

I used to work for SC Johnson, specifically with one of the lab chemist who works with Future. Just to let you know that the Future formula is not sold under any other brand. The Johnson Kleer is NOT the same formula. Unfortunately the Future formula is only sold in the US. It is not available in outside under any other name. However after speaking with the chemist he said that basically any floor wax will work as they are chemically similar.

That's interesting Alan. I thought it was "same stuff, different name".

Kleer is fantastic stuff and I've used on quite a few models.

Strangely... I've used it on floors too!

Too many years ago, to want to remember, I worked for a subsidiary of Reckitt & Colman, which made floor polish. The biggest bugbear, for housewives, was that the polish could be ruined by cleaners, so, in a kitchen, washing-up liquid could cause mayhem. They found that the addition of zinc stearate made a polish impervious, but this meant that, in order to clean it off, a cleaner needed to have ammonia in it. I see that modellers are complaining that Maskol can damage Future, and Klear, and it smells (now) of ammonia, so I suspect that the same criteria apply, even now.

Hi Alan

That is interesting - like most people, I always assumed they were the same! Now what we need is for someone who access to both products to try a comparative trial to see which (if either) works best for modellers.

Edgar - that clue to the ammonia problem could be the answer to a lot of modelling messes.

All the best

Sorry, Dave, but I absolutely creased up, at your answer; at 66, I don't want to use anything that might affect my future.
