I got my dummy covered and you can view it here:

Sherman Dummy Tank

Thanks to a tip of Plasticbattle I used shoe wrapping paper and it worked fantastic.
My first batch of paper was smooth and hade almost no texture on it and seemed to be covered with a layer of thin plastic foil, worked fine but, like I said no texture.

Then my daughter remembered that she still had some shoeboxes in her room and in there was a different kind of paper, it was a eggshell white paper with a open structure, this turned out perfectly, easy to cut, takes glue without a lot of tearing and accepted paint without getting soggy again

I cut out the tank structure in 10 sub-assembly's with the necessary overlay's.

I glued the overlays to the main frame and after everything was assembled I "painted" diluted white glue over the structure.

After 24h I primed the inside black and the outside automotive gray, ready to put the OD on.

I just discovered that on the front (below the 2 hatches) that there is a spot that is too smooth, so I am going to add another layer of paper on that.

I now have to think about 2 things:

Will I paint the damn thing now or wait until I have my M32 ready so that I can do some decent paint work.

and I still have to figure out how I am going to paint the suspension and tracks on the sides (see pictures) by hand or airbrush, so many things to consider #:-)

Comments are always welcome :-)

Here's a thought on the suspension - Do it on your PC. Do you think that the shoe paper will go through a printer? That would keep the paper thing going.

It looks good BTW. Thanks for the update. Hats off to yet another cool idea by Roadie gotta love it.

Real nice work and very cool idea too!
Just a question: do you mind if I ask you to send me the file (AutoCad) that you used for template? Because IŽll try something like that in a near future, just asking... :-)
Cheers

Paulo,

The program that I use is not really AutoCad, but Metricom 2D/3D it is purely designed for architectural use.

I can, however, convert its files to DXF files which can be opened by AutoCAD.

I will send you the file later today,

I`m always interested in those kinda thingsd that are not often seen. I really like to see what the finished result is.

As usual this tip was something I got/recieved/borrowed/stole from somebody else! Worked great for me also. Glad it worked out for you Roadkill. The project is turning out nice now. Looking forward to see it progressing!

I received it, and I have the CAD program at office, there will be no problem to open it there.
Thanks for the attention
