As my next project (Revell U/Boat) has failed to turn up in the post yet, a bout of insanity hit me where i went a bought a Roman Warship kit.

I have no idea what I'm doing but i have several plans (one of which is putting it back in the box :-) ).
So far i have built the hull and placed the lower deck in.
Next is to add as much of the wooden sections as possible before it heads to the spray booth for the base coat.
The detail is quite good and with some careful painting on the raised parts, hopefully it should look quite colourful :-) .
I will post some regular updates as i figure out what I'm doing :-).
Andy

That's the front or whatever its called :-).

It is a bit, i keep trying to find the wings or turret :-).
It should be finished by Telford, once i figure out the rigging on it (not looking forward to that bit).
It won't be in a dio as it comes with a nice base to stand on.
No figures come with the kit. I have looked for some figures to go with it but have yet to find any yet.

Ahoy there Andy, what's this going all nautical on us.

Actually I've only just stopped laughing from last night, when Courtney told me what you had bought. :-) The yoghurt information service works both ways :-) :-) We had both better be careful what we tell her in future.

Seriously, that's a nice looking kit. I look forward to seeing your progress on it.

Thanks Derek.
I seem to have gone all sea-doggy at the moment :-).
Courtney keeps patting me on the head and asking me "if I'm alright" :-)8 :-) . Courtney will probably tell you when i cock it up then :-).

Hi Phil,
I remember laughing when you bought that kit, but you certainly did it justice after i see it built and painted at Telford. I haven't a clue what possessed me into buying this :-).
This kit you started, is it a certain sci-fi kit that you purchased at a very reasonable price at Telford.

All the base colours are on. The masts, upper deck and base aren't glued yet.
Next is to paint the gold trimming, glue it all together and then to create the wood effect, either by using Rowans technique or using oil washes.

Coming along nicely Andy. Are you going to hand paint the eye or is there a decal for it.

Hi Derek,
There isn't a decal for the eye, so it looks like i will have to paint it :-) .

Hi Nige,
Yeah, right, i can't wait for all the rigging, including 22 block things which thread onto the rigging. W.W.1 aircraft are a doddle compared to this thing :-) .

Hi Mal,
Ok stopping :-) :-) .

Hi Lewis,
That all depends if Mal lets me continue :-) :-) . Should be done by Telford, might even be finished in time for Milton Keynes (depending on how the rigging goes :-) ).
Thanks for all the comments guys.

OK, getting on with it :-) .
i have added and painted the ram and stern decorative piece. The ram looked as though it had just been stuck on the prow so i added a "collar" out of Milliput to look as though it was slotted over the hull and not just stuck on the prow.
I have painted the raised decorative parts and given the wood a wash of Burnt Umber, to give it a "wooden" look.
The upper deck is still not glued down yet as i have to add the oars (which is the next job).
I need to repaint some of the gold parts as my wash has covered some parts. I also need to paint the eye on the red part of the prow (no idea how to do that yet :-)).

Thanks Andy.
Sleep, whats that :-) . I sleep about 4 hours a night, only watch the footie and Lost on telly, which leaves me a bit of time to model (saves talking to the beloved :-)8 ).

Andy this is looking really good, the wood parts are very good but I particularly like the red piece at the bow (front end) as it looks like stained wood effect. I don't know what type of paint would have been used in 50 BC, but I bet it wasn't Humbrol and I think this looks spot on. I must say that your photography is coming on, or did Courtney take the pics
