I'll take the plunge and introduce myself. I'll be 47 next month and I've been looking for a good mid life crisis activity since my wife won't let me have an affair. I built models as a kid up to about 18 years old and I've wanted to get back into it for a good while. I spent the last year picking up kits when they were on half price sale at Hobby Lobby and now I'm diving in. I've just about completed two, a Tamiya M3 Lee and a Tamiya LRDG Chevy truck. They just need more weathering and for me to build a diorama base for them. I intend to concentrate on Allied equipment since I think there are WAY too many models of PzIVs out there.

I've been checking out this site for a couple of months and I really like it. I've only been posting for a few days and already I've got a PFC stripe. I've been posting on The History Channel.com's WWII discussion board for three years and over 1200 posts and I haven't gotten any recognition like that.

Hi Rodger, and welcome. Like you I am a similar age and recently started modeling. I've been on this site for a couple of months now and it has been said but it is the MOST addictive thing I've been involved with. Everyone is so friendly and immensly helpful. I also started on Allied armour, but now am doing a Tiger I and am going to do the Spitfire group build with Holdfast. Give that some thought, it should be a lot of fun.

Sorry cliff, I know allied armour builders are a bit thin on the ground (I was one once) but overall there are far more armour modellers here than aircraft.

Can I interest you in a Spitfire group build? Remember, you can't have to many Spitfires

I agree with everyone here who mentioned how great this site is. I can't believe the information I've found on it so far. I also agree with all of you who said the site was addictive. In fact if I get fired because of the time I spend on this site while at work I hope you'll all give me a good reference.

To Holdfast, when you refer to allied equipment as 'targets' you sound like a submariner. To paraphrase them, "There are two types of tanks, Tigers and Targets." Hmmm...Tigers and Targets sounds like a good name for a website.

To Cliff, don't worry about Holdfast recruiting me to the Spitfire build. I don't think I'll be building too many 'wingy things.' My wife has given me my first commission, to build a 1/48 scale Revell B-17F to represent the plane my Father in Law flew 35 missions in. I am getting really frustrated putting the thing together and it will be awhile before I try any other aircraft model.

I do plan on joining the Barbarosa group build this summer. I'm torn between a Tamiya KV-1B or an Italeri T-26.

Welcome Rodger! I think the addictive part of this site is that there are so many fellow modellers sharing ideas/tips about this hobby. I think no where else in the world can you find such a big bunch of modellers together who all share the same passion be it figures planes or armor............
