Our 5 year anniversary since starting Armorama is coming up on December 15th. I want to have something fun for that date but I need some suggestions. So if you have some ideas please shout them out here.

I am also thinking about ideas to keep us moving forward as a community (as I ususally do this time of year). If you have any suggestions on that please email them to me via the email in my profile. Thanks!

Cheers,
Jim

Here are some suggestions for the 5th year anniversary:

1) Assuming you have kept the old web pages from when the site was first launched, have a section which shows how the site has evolved over the 5 years.

2) Throw a banner making competition with the best banner winner winning an armorama T-shirt?

3) Set up some merchandise that commemorates the 5th year anniversary of the site. Perhaps the banner can be printed on it?

4) Have a slight discount on both silver and gold A-guard membership with perhaps an extra 5mbs of hosting space? If the extra space is not ideal, maybe having a 5th year anniversary badge (silver and gold) that would be unique to those who did sign up on this anniversary. Existing A-guard members can contribute more if they wish to join in?

Congratulations on reaching this milestone Jim. I for one am certainly feeling privileged to have a home on the web to come to whenever i surf the web.

It may be a little too late to organize now, but we could have had an anniversary galley set up where folks posted photos of their pre-Armorama builds (5+ yrs old) next to kits that they built since they became members and started using the tips and techniques learned here.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Someone also suggested to me that perhaps we could get some users to post a quick video on YouTube talking about how they found the site and how it affected them. This would be easy to setup anyways but I don't know how many of you have webcams.

Anyone else have ideas?

Regards,
Jim

Wow, 5 years. Happy Anniversary guys! Its hard to believe I found this site over 3 years ago. I originally found this site looking for information on a 1/144 RB47 jet I was building for my father as it was the jet he served on. I didnt want to build this thing, but at my fathers age, he just couldnt see the small parts that well. Having been an avid modeller as a kid, I kind of inheritted the job, with no intention of getting back into the hobby whatsoever. But I have to say, from all the advice, techniques, new models, and nice people I met here, I started the hobby all over again and have been modelling ever since. I am glad I did too. So, consider this a "Thank You" for running such a wonderful site. Keep up the good work. Here is a picture of my RB47 after a 20 year break from the hobby.
Thanks to the help from the members here, I was able to build it pretty well, and give my father a fantastic gift he always wanted.

Pvt Parts and myself have conversed on this matter, and we will try to do a short video as soon as we can 1. get together, and 2 figure out how to turn on my web camera and 3 how to save the video after we shoot it. I glad John took those "real" computer courses.

I don't have a webcam but I would be willing to write up a short post about how I became a member of the Armorama family. It has been over three years for me and I have really enjoyed it.

Just a thought.

Probably a guestbook dedicated to the 5 year anniversary would be most ideal since most of us frequent this site through the forums.

You don't need a web cam, I think. Most digital cameras will also take short videos. I don't know anything about uploading onto YouTube. Maybe somebody can give details on how to do it?

Congrats!

How about everyone picking say their favourite dio, and having a top listing (5-1, 10-1 etc) of dioramas? I know some dios here are just amazing - and it would be interesting to see some "golden oldies".
I know there have been many that have been made over the years - so maybe a shortlist?

What do you guys think?
Harry
