What are people using for stowage and helmet straps these days? I have seen photo-etch offerings for specific vehicles, but I am looking for a more "home brewed" solution.

I would like to use real cloth but I have run into fray problems with this solution. Sheet styrene looks kind of phony as well, however it comes in a great variety of widths and thickness.

Lead is a good material, if you don't lick your fingers during construction. Are there any tools for cutting neat, parallel, strips from lead sheet?

Thanks

It depends in where I´m gonna use it.

For stowage straps in tanks, I´m using aluminium from soda cans or masking tape for weapons slings in figures.

Cheers

Before I got enough sheet lead to last me 2 life times I was using thin sheet brass. Heating over a candle took out the spring. Not as easy as lead, but it did work. To cut small thin strips I use 2 rulers and plastic strips to set the width. I still use the brass for fuel tank straps. Keep an eye on your photo etch sheets. Some times there are lengths of scrap that are usable in projects.

For stowage straps, maybe you could use "resist tape" which is used for etching circuit boards. This tape is a like a very narrow and black masking tape. Several widthes are available (from 0.5 to 2 mm ) In France, 2 of the most commonly found brands were Mecanorma and Decadry , but I'm not sure their stuff is still available...You can have a look at the nearest electronic supplies shop for equivalent products.

A "similar" tape is the graphic tape, which comes in several widthes and colors (like those made by Chartpak...)
