Does anyone know how to make a parachute in 1/48 scale?
It would need to look accurate, and it would have to be in the open position.

Thanks!

Chip
Check this thread out. It's not exactally a parachute but I see a lot of similarities between the two items.

I'd look into some type of plastic that can have some arisol glue sprayed over it to harden it.

Try using tissue paper for the cloth.

Try using tissue paper. Cut a circular piece and attach your risers (not sure of an exact number) then tie a weight to the end of the risers. Try moving the parachute thru the air so it will billow and spray an aerosol type hairspray on the parachute as it is billowed. This will probably take some trial and error before you get the technique down.

have seen the result of this technique at a local hobby shop near Ft. Bragg. It was a C-130 with paratroopers jumping out the door and the there was a line of open chutes hung behind the bird from the ceiling. The method I have described is what the guy said he used. It looked very good, but I have not tried it yet.

I just happened to see parachutes already made and painted at the local hobby store, they were drag chutes for cars, but were made out of paper mache. Also, what about the parachutes for model rockets?

Rule no 1 in scratchbuilding : no need to spend energy if someone else built it for you already. If those toy chutes can do the trick... don't hesitate.

I just remember when I was a kid, (in the sixties or early seventies) we used to have these small plastic alien looking figures (quite cute actually, about an inch tall) with a small parachute. you could throw them up in the air, and they came drifting down on the chute. You know what ? I'll try to make one of those for junior tomorrow !

They have those all over the place, never even thought of them! Places where you get tickets from playing the games will usually have them for only a few tickets. I have one in my room right now!
