Sadly, the news of the Vegemite ban was erroneous. See the whole story here. Snopes.com is your friend.

Whew Al thanks for that.

The sanity of many ex pat New Zealanders can now be preserved.

Just FYI we have a similar product here in New Zealand called "Marmite".
Its very much an "acquired" taste but very very popular.

Both I and my sons love it on bread and toast.

We have both Vegemite and Marmite available here in shops.

Regards

Sean

Well from what other people were saying about it, we may have been better off with a ban :-)

Pull your head in, Al! This has all been a ruse to get more yanks to feast on some good tucker...
Take a look in your own backyard; peanutbutter candy?! Dr Pepper?! Hell you call scones "biscuits"!
And as for your Aussie rules footy link, have you ever stopped to think how American football translates to a foreigner? :-)

Gotta disagree there. We have scones and we have biscuits.

why even in slummy old Jersey, we know the difference between a scone and a biscuit. I can't remember the last time I had a dog scone but do remember my last dog biscuit.

hehe spose you can buy in bulk and save...
Went to Kentucky fried (sorry, KFC) in Ca. and they had scones on the menu called 'biscuits'... So what is a biscuit according to the natives?
A biscuit to us is anything you renamed a cookie
And what about jelly? This is a jam conserve/preserve, right?
Jelly is what you call jello...

Jelly is like a super processed Jam, with all the solids removed, and is basically a mostly solid block of over sweet sugar. I'm not partially fond of Jellies.
Jams/preserves have more of the real fruit in them, usually in a sorry state of mushiness and again overly sugar filled. (Depending on which brand you pay for)
Conserves contain mostly fruit, aren't as sweet, and you can actually see the fruit in it more normal state. (again depending on the brand.)

I'm a marmalade man myself. But that's a joke I won't go into here, but I'm sure you can figure out. :-) :-)

Good grief, Dave's looking for a Lady Marmalade. :-) :-)

Here in Kansas, the heartland of America, we put gravy on our biscuits. What ya'll put on your's?

Growing up in a poorer home, biscuits were a luxury, we used bread as in Gravy Bread, Hum, nothing like main lining cholesterol.
Of course that gravy can't be confused with a good home made Italian Gravy, or to the rest of "yous guys"- Spaghetti Sauce.

I might offend here but the only reason america does not want vegimite is because it contains healthy things. Most of america wants bad stuff filled waith sugar or fat KFC for example that is deep fried in extra fat oil for goodness sake its so greasy and wrong. When I heard this I thought a lot of people would think that america has an inside hatred for Australia by banning its Spreadable food Icon. any way no offence ment

Now Sebastian, I do not eat processed sugar, nor do I eat "Junk Food" especially what ever kind of animal is hidden under all the batter at KFC, nor do I engage in the consumption of alcoholic beverages. All are bad for your health. Since I gave up the alcoholic beverages, I gave up the habit of ending up in handcuffs, and meeting the nice man in the black robe (over here he doesn't even wear a wig!). He hasn't send any Christmas cards, so I don't think he misses me either, and the cops wave to me, and aren't saying assume the position with guns drawn. Since I gave up process sugars, starches, and "Junk Food/fast food" I lost 30 pounds.

But I'll never give up my Marmalade. :-)

Honestly I have not tried vegimite so I cannot say that it's good or bad, but obviously a lot of people don't like it, not just Americans.
