Good enough that I will go again. They had a good selection of vehicles there, many you don't normally see. The military vehicle club was also there which bolstered the numbers quite a bit.

Off the top of my head....

There were a couple of M113s, one with allthe add on armour that was used in Bosnia. An M577, and I think an M113 with a hiab crane as well.

A scorpion,
Walker Bulldog,
A supply type vehicel based on the M113 running gear.
Landrovers of various types, including one with a 106mm recoiless rifle on the back,
Jeeps of various types, including an SAS jeep.
Valentine,
M16 AA halftrack,
25 Pounder/quad tractor
Bren/Universal carriers
NZLAV
Maori battalion canteen truck
Various re-enacting groups.

Well, if there's interest (from Auckland), I'd be up for an Armorama road trip..!

Hit all those small towns on the way down and find the ultimate burger (mmmmm, beetroot...), argue about the choice of music, rant about how Dragon should bring out softskins, stare out the window in increasing excitement as we hurtle across the Plains north of Waiouru...

Private cars and share the petrol and driving, or hire a minibus if the numbers are good.

Thoughts..?

They had a battle, which included firing the 25 pounder, as well as at least one of the tank cannons. There were quite a few trucks threre as well, but not really being my thing I didn't take note of the types.

And of course you can have a look around the museum.

lol...attractions around Waiouru? Only if you like tussock!

The Museum is really good though, and depending on how much time you have, it's only 1 hour 15 minutes down the road to the air force Ohakea museum, which is also very good, and it's quite a scenic drive through the Rangitiki.

You can also go around the Ohakune side of the mountain and drive up to the visitor center on Mt Ruapehu, that is worth a look. There isn't likely to be much snow around in Feb, but it is still an interesting place. There are hot pools in Tokanuu by Lake Taupo on the Turangi side.
