One of life's larger than life characters - he will me sorely missed.

Lots of love and sympathy to his wife and children.

While Steve will be missed by all, I believe he's legacy will live on.

All I can say is... Crikey!

Amazing, just got home, turn TV and computer on, saw this post at the same time they were reporting it on the tube.

Sad news, but I guess he went doing what he enjoyed doing.

Real sad and shocking news for all of us down under on both sides of the mighty Tasman.

My three boys just loved the guy and a real shocked by his death. They are forunate that eath does not often intrude into their young lives.

Condolences to his wife and young family. I understand that they have had difficulty tracking Terri down who is/was trekking in a remote part of Tasmania.

Regards

Sean

Very sad news indeed. Having lived in Australia for 6 years and knowing people who had their lives touched directly by Steve, the news is hard to take.

RIP Steve

Apparently his wife is suing Ambre Solaire suntan lotion because their factor 30 was supposed to protect against harmfull rays.

Maybe a little insensitive on my part, but man, what a way to go. Considering his job, the calculated risks he took - not to mention the fact that just about everyone expected him to have a croc bite his head off - he died doing what he loved. In the words of one of my friends, "What can I say? He deserved punctuality."

Hi guys,
Well he was a fair dinkum, true blue Aussie. For the last 10 years or so he has been one of Australia's biggest personalities and is probably responsible for drawing thousands of people ,helping boosting Australia's tourism industry.Through is own weird way he taught education and awareness of some of the most exotic reptiles on the planet.
A sad day for Australia..
BTW,i know the BBC joke was meant in good jest..but c'mon mate, the blokes not even 24hrs. dead..

God Speed Steve.

That said, maybe it is a Hoosier thing but man I have to agree with Jeff. Who didn't see this coming? He went out doing what he loved.

It's real. The news of his death is in the papers and on TV.

He will be missed. He was quite a character/personality and no one can replace him. He bubbled with enthusiam and excitement and positive energy.

He died doing what he loved best because he really loved it. One can say the same about Siegfred (sp) and Roy. Some people just love their work and no amount of lessons from the animals or getting hurt by them (or hearing of others getting hurt) will change them. That's all there is to it.

Rest in peace, good man because he really was.

Davy, a bit innappropriate mate, give the guy a little respect.
And yeah it's all official, the footage has been reviewed as they were filming right at the moment, apparently he was simply swimming above the ray, hadnt touched it, and it got spooked swam up did a .180 turn, and struck him with the tail as it went away, if the wound had been anywhere else they say it would not have been even near fatal, but the bard went right into the chest cavity and struck the heart, so unfortunate...

I really wish it WAS a joke actually but it is very true.

I actually already posted this in another thread but wikipedia had already updated the page with his biography. This was updated only hours after it was announced.
