Hi Nigel,
Welcome back I hope you and you son had a good trip. Thanks for sharing the photos.
I see that paratrooper is still hanging on the church roof, he was there when I visited in 94/95 :-) :-) :-) I never really felt very comfortable with that one although I new the story when I saw the dummy.
Anyway hope you had an excellent trip. Interesting museum at Arromanches. Do they still have the massive model of the Mulberry Harbour?
Did you get to the Airborne Museum near St Mere Eglise?
Cheers
Al

Nige some great photos. Normandy is always a great place to visit. That dummy on the the church ion St Mere Eglise has become a permanent memorial. Also of interest Lt Col Otway who led the attack on Merville recentley passed away. Looks like you had a good time.

Thanks for the post, very inspiring... My wife and I are planning a trip to England and Normandy next year, I might be PMing you later. I am trying to figure out all the logistics of our trip, I sure could use some advice!

Thanks guys.
It was certainly a memorable trip.
The huge model of the Mulberry harbour is still in the museum. That feat of engineering is remarkable in itself!
Yes,we did get to visit the Airborne Museum at St Mere Eglise. Its just across the road from the church.Part of the museum is on the site of the house that was on fire on the night of the 5/6th June.
I heard Lt Col Otway had died aged 92.I have a photo of his bust at Merville and there was a memorial service held there a few days before our visit.

Hasn't changed much since I visited during the 45th Anniversary of D-Day (June 1989). That was quite a show, I may have to dig out photos if I can find them.
Interesting photo of the tank (M4A1 75 wet) that is always in dispute.

Some really good photos here. Thanks for sharing it out. Im quite impressed with how well the bunkers were preserved on the beach front.
I was quite an idiot when i went on my honeymoon as i took the ferry from UK towards Paris and hadnt realised that i took the same path as the allies during WWII. Would have opted to stop by Normandy if i had another chance.
