Well, guys, I just wanted to let you all know that I am officially a MOUT Instructor. We had our last classes this weekend while on drill. We got evaluated Sunday and I passed. I still need to work on my presintation part, but the SGM said I know all the information. So this June while at Annual Training, I'm gonna run my unit to the ground!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Way to go Pete. Congrats. I used to teach MOUT to the Air Force Security Police Units at Ft. Hood when I was assigned to the GCRC at Bergstrom AFB. Great training area at the Hood.

I wish we where doing our training at FT. Hood, but unfortunately, we are training at Camp Swift in Bastrop. It's a small MOUT sight with only 4 buildings, but it will serve it's perpuse. Training will only be good as the instructors.

Our Unit built the Hooches and new latrine in the training site back in 1992. I spent a lot of my time out in that area (when I was not TDY). I lived in Bastrop in the Tahitian Village. Great area.

Congratulations Pete, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Now being an old... and I mean OLD Anchor Clanker, it's time again for another "Dumb Grumpy Question"

What is a MOUT instructor? :-)

Got you covered Grump!

MOUT = Military Operations in Urban Terrian

Basically, what you see the Army and Marines are doing on TV right now in Iraq. Room and building clearing, 4 man team movements through certain types of terrain and buildings. We even learned Compliance and Non-Compliance take down moves. But as the SGM said, "it teaches SITUATIONAL AWARENESS!"

Congrats, Pete.
I feel much safer now, knowing you have the ability to crush through doors and walls with explosives, flashbangs and a blazing M-4... :-)

Train hard, fight easy

Re: MOUT

Thanks for asking Dave. If you hadn't I was going to have to.

Congrats Pete. Like the ancient sergeant in "We Were Soldiers" said, "Train 'em up."

Congrats Pete! Its going to be awesome time being on the other side of the fence....the other side being an instructor as oppose to a trainee / recruit.

I never did the course you mentioned although im sure there is an equivalent in the Singapore commando unit but i had the same feeling you are going through after completing my amphibious instructor course. You get all creative with your teaching style which heavily incorporates punishments. :-)

That is awesome. Always good to have something else to put on the resume.

I am honestly curious though. But why, if you are Land Combat Electronic Missile Repairman in an CSS unit getting qualified to teach MOUT?

Yup, well put Rob!

It came down from the National Guard Bureau that all units will go through this type of training for what Rob said.

In a way, I'm glad I am an instructor know, but on the bad side, I don't get to go through all the rest of the training my unit will be going through. This years Annual Training is geared towards Combat Task such as the MOUT training, the "SHOOT HOUSE", convoy lane training, and the list goes on. But at least I know what I learned in class, I will pass it on to my fellow soldiers.
