is it just me, or in the movie "Patton" is every single tank an M4A1 Walker Bulldog with German or American markings And wasn't the Bulldog made after WW2? your thoughts.

You are almost right.
The "german" tanks are M48 "Patton", the british are M24 Chaffee and , yes, the american tanks are M41 Walker Bulldog, all of them hired from the Spanish Army.

Ironic that the movie would use Patton tanks as German tanks against Patton!!

Movies like Patton it was much easier to paint the "wrong" tank the wrong color ('44 - '45 German armors was not "Panzer Gray) and call it something. Most audiences didn't know the difference. Today, movie makers try for more realism. Tiger I built on a T-34 or T-55 chassis. Same goes for JadgPather's in BoB and SPR.

If either was made 20 years earlier there would have been a M-48 painted gray heading towards the "Alamo".

Yeah, and in Big Red One, all of the tanks are upgraded Israeli Super Shermans. Did they used to do that because of cost.

Yes, it is cheper to hire active tanks from some country's army than it is to find enough working, historically accurate vehicles. Most are in the hands of private collectors or museums and they are very expensive to rent. They kind of get pissed off when you set them on fire and attempt to blow them up as well.

Thats what I like about "Kellys Heroes" - at least they tried to make it look real, too bad with the color - but they did their best!

Talking about Kelly´s heroes, which version are the Shermans?
I think they are Fireflies, since their long gun....
The Tigers are T34, but I´m not sure about which version are the Shermans.

They are normal shermans (M4A3s I believe) with 76mm guns in what are usually 75mm turrets.

In Kelly's Heros - "Oddball" stuck a length of pipe on the barrel of his Sherman to make it look like a 90 mm

Yes, Oddball says something about that, but sounds senseless since that "conversion" would make the tanks primary targets for tank-hunters.Even the British painted their fireflies´ guns with the aim of look shorter than they really were so they look like standard Shermans for the enemy.

I do believe those Shermans were sold/given to Yugoslavia after the war I think the film was made over there

That is correct. All of the authentic WWII armor used in that movie was readily available in full working condition in Yugoslavia in the late 1960's.

Didn't they have a mock up of a T-72 in "Red Dawn"? Before anyone could get their hands on one.

I believe so. If I remember correctly it kinda raised hell with a few people when it was being transported through the city all painted nice and pretty with red stars on it.
There is still an old transport plane painted in camo at a small airport near me. Up until a few years ago it too still had the red stars on the tail and wings until some complaints came in. Now it has primer gray spots where the stars were. In fact this same small airport had various pieces of several wartime aircraft laying around. I specifically remember seeing the turrets and cockpits of some Avengers piled into a corner, not sure if they are still there or not.
