Fellas,

We got our charter from Historical Scale Modeling Society, and will have our first meeting for the Dallas-FW area on Saturday, April 29th, from 1-5 (come and go as you please). We have reserved the Harrington Library meeting room (huge!) for the last Saturday of each month. They have a huge display case system, and have agreed to give us permanent display space, which will be voted on by the membership. Great to finally not have to worry about "where to put all my finished stuff!", eh?

The address is 1501 18th street in old Plano. It is just a few blocks west of the intersection of Jupiter (exit off George Bush) and 18th street.... or you can just head east on 18th if you come up 75 Central.

Our first meeting will have the following agenda:
- Election of officers (annual)
- Estabishment of SIGS and Leads
- Demonstration of creating RTV Molds (Keith Magee)
- "Constucting with HANSA" kits (Keith Magee)
- Q/A along with TnT (Tips - n- Techniques) -open to all

Membership is free... just bring a project you are working on if desired, along with you tools and toys.

Call me at 972-608-9899 if you have questions or want to volunteer to lead a discussion or demonstration at a forthcoming event.

I plan on making it. You already know you are stuck as Prez don't you? I want to see some of your rubbled town goodies, I plan to do a dio of a KT being stalked by a small group of Americans coming up from behind. I've got that cobblestone street casting you gave me last year and want to build off that. When and where is the Make and take. I have some scouting stuff coming up in early May (Cinco de Mayo parade in GP and a Court of Honor on Saturday the 6th)

I also plan to put up signage at the IPMS SquadronFest to attract additional modelers...

And I think we will have quite a few people from the recent "make and take"s we did in March. BTW - the next sessions for make and take are May 7 and 21st... anyone willing to help is greatly appreciated. Blaster was a great asset at the last class, and I think the beginners really enjoyed having more individualized attention... plus it was fun for us too, right Blaster?

Ya got that right Keith !!!!!!!!!!!!! I plan on bringing my 48th scale versions of the plane kits from my plane building phase in the 80 - 90's for showing the painting possibilities. May 7th will work for me 'cause my scouting stuff is the day before. The 21st is a possible as I plan a trek to Squadron Open house that day.

I'm planning on being there, and I'm really looking forward to it. I think I can help out with the make and takes on the 7th and 21st as well.

Looks like the southern group will be well represented. Got Ben back in the fold again and hopefully Jim and Billy will get in as well. Haven't heard from Moe yet and Andy seems to be lost in the boonies of south Tarrant county.

Keith,
Again, thanks for hustling this group together. I can see there's a lot to be gained, even for this model railroader, just by hanging out. Was great to meet everyone else too.
Looking forward to next time and, I promise not to set off the alarm again. No promises though on not finding some other sort of tomfoolery.

Well 6 of us managed to make it in. Keith taught us mold making and we all kinda helped him out by making masters for him :-) :-)

The show is on Saturday May 20th at the Mesquite arena. Keith and I will be there operating his booth and trying to recruit a bit. Keith, Ben and I are planning to hit the Squadron open house on Friday the 19th. If you are off that day get in touch and we can all meet and eat up their deli stuff they always lay out. Some of you guys may want to bring a pickup to carry your loot home as there is always some super specials that crop up. Last year they had the 350 scale Liberty ship for $20 and the modern Russian Carrier for $99. Who knows what it will be this year? Maybe a super discounted BR52?!!

Don't forget ths Sunday is a make and take class. Keith will have to give us directions. It's a chance for us to teach folks to increase interest in the hobby. It's a real kick to see the delight of the young-uns when they make these little kits

Anyone know where I can find some static grass at around Ft. Worth? Hobby Town does not have it.

James,

Go to the Hobbytown in Plano and in the gaming section you will find static grass made by Gamesworkshop. I used it before and its very realistic and easy to work with.

Also... In Hobbylobby under the railroad section you will be able to find the same kind of product for cheaper. However I have not try them yet.

I hope this helps.

I stopped by the one at I20 and Cooper. All they had was the fine granule and clumpy stuff.

Jim:

Are you looking for the "powdered" type stuff or the kind that stands up-right that you use to show real high grass. I got the real fine stuff from that Hobby town in Arlington. in the train section by woodland scenics. The other kind I found years ago when Phil's was still around. I think the name of the company is K & M or something like that. They make cables, chains and powdered grass, mud ETC.

I'm looking for this. See link...
http://www.woodlandscenics.com/index.htm

Its not the powdered stuff or the tall field grass. Its a product that lays out and has a static charge to make it stand up.

see pic below

I couldn't figure where to look in the Woodland Scenics site, but your foto of it on the diorama makes me want it too !!! Get a stock number and we can go in and ask the folks at the Arlington Hobbytown to order some. It also may show up at the Mesquite show with one of the vendors.

When you click the link it will bring up the home page. To the left of the page click on landscaping/ Ground Covers/ Static Grass Flock.

There you can get the different model #'s and different colors. It can be ordered from their web site but I was trying to avoid paying S&H.

Found it. I think I'll look for it at the show and make querry's there. I didn't see what shipping was on it, but $9 for one of those bottles sounds pretty reasonable to me. Are you sure the Hobbytown in Arlington didn't have it? They have so much train and woodland scenics stuff there.
Did the third make and take with Keith this past SUnday. We had a lot of folks there....around 30. This time I brought in my old 48th scale versions of the aircraft we were giving them to build which really put some excitement out there for the kids. Some of the older ones are hoping to go to the Mesquite show. We also got several dad's fired up as well.
Keith, Ben and I are planning to meet at the Squadron shop on Friday the 19th. If any of you can get off work, it sure would be great to see you there. Of course, Keith and I will be at his booth the next day at the show.
