I live in the UK and am about to buy an airbrush and compressor. I've been looking at the airmaster plus because i need something quiet (its the one that looks like a small typewriter) Does anyone have any experience with this compressor? Altenatively can anyone suggest any other makes of compressor that are also fairly quiet?
thanks

I am not familiar with Airmaster.

I had an old Brown compressor that was very noisy.

Based upon some of the input I got at this site, I recently bought a Campbell Hausfeld 2 gallon compressor (FP2003). It is very quiet. It's 2 gal holding tank means I don't have to listen to the compressor if I don't want to do so. It was also much less expensive than so called "hobby" compressors. The FP2003 was under $100 at Walmart. I don't know if this model is avail in UK, though.

I am planning on getting one myself (thought I would have it by Christmas). From what I hear it is a really good compressor. Here is a thread I started a while back asking for some feedback on the Airmaster Linkie

Lee,
I work in a hobby shop part time and the Airmaster is one of our best sellers mainley because it is so quite. What is the price you are looking at buying it for?
Also, they come in two version, one with the foot pedal and regulator and one with out those two items, get the one with the foot pedal and regulator, well worth the money, depending on how much you are going to pay for it.

Hi everyone
I've seen it advertised for £240 but with a special discount i can get it for £120 ($174 approx)

Hope that link works.

I have also seen a nail gun compressor in the local hardware store for £65. The pressure goes from 20psi min up to 120 psi max, and it has a small air tank. I am undecided on wether to go for the cheap no frills compressor or get the airmaster for its quality at the moment.
thanks for the replies

Greetings Newstarter et al.

I can say that I've had an Airmaster for 4 years and that it is a great compressor of hobby airbrushing; quiet, reliable, gives enough pressure, etc. I would recommend that you do the following:

Get yourself a regulator. Go down to the hardware store where you would purchase this item and take the Airmaster with you. It's design and construction may block you from being able to screw one on normally, you may have to get an L fixture in order to allow the regulator to fit (I really had to McGyver mine on without one), but with the right planning and parts, you should be able to fit a regulator on with no problem.

I have given it away to a friend of mine for his birthday when I upgraded to a larger beast (I also cast some stuff in resin and I need it for pressure casting) but I know it will serve him as well as it served me.

HTH,
Nemanja.
