My Tamiya P47 in 1/72.
Cockpit has been closed up since this was taken,so this photo is slightly out of date.

I'll post more as and when I make progress

Looking very good Nige, what colour have you used for the cockpit green? Hard to believe it's 1/72, your getting too good at this

Hi Mal.
The base coat is Humbrol 117,matt US Green. Its dry drushed with a metal,,cant remember which one,and Humbrol Raf interior green. Then theres a wash of a burnt umber water colour.
The instrument panel and seatbelts are the kit decals.
Most of the credit for this cockpit turning out so well is down to Tamiya not me :-)

Andy (++)
P.S For those of you who don't know, this P47 is a side project for Nige as he is in the middle of rigging a Tiger Moth, the madman :-) .

,,
next instalment will be the engine.Coming soon,,,
"patience he has not",,and I thought I was the young Jedi :-)
Still debating as to whether to attempt the engine harness at the moment.
Although I have a feeling my brain is about to explode over the Tiger Moth business

Well if you can rig that Tiger moth a little ol' engine harness should be a doddle for a young Jedi, "feel the force Nige"

Made some progress,,(to cheer me up after the Tiger Moth business).
Ive made a start on the engine but have decided against attempting a wiring harness.Heres where it stands at the moment.

Made a start on the engine.
Ive given it a gunmetal wash but I cant help thinking its missing something,,(and I dont mean the wiring harness :-) )
Any ideas guys?

The actual detail doesnt show up very well in the photo. Its really tricky trying to get a good photo of something this size. Its a lot clearer and better defined in "person"

Looking good Nige
I think the engine could do with the push rod tubes being picked out, I think gloss black would be a suitable colour. The tops of each side of the cylinders were also black, I think. I also think the reduction gear housing(?) the bit sticking out at the front should be a lighter grey. I'll see if I have any pics anyware.

Hi Mal.
I hear you
Found a photo on Leons thread about his P47.(it was actually that thread that inspired me to have a go at mine),and I see what you mean. The conrod covers were black but the gunmetal wash has wiped this out somewhat so I'll redo them, and I'll have a look for a lighter grey for the hub. After that maybe a drybrush of silver will do the job.
Such a shame that 90% of this detail will be hidden when the engine is installed.

I will be shopping at Hinckley for some polished aluminium alclad for this, amongst other bits and bobs.Looks like being a big shopping day

Making good progress.
A couple of small areas to address but pretty pleased with how its going so far.
Hopefully there will be someone selling Alclad at Hinckley or I will have to order some online as LHS doesnt stock it .Could be a good excuse for a ride over to the shop in Hereford if they have some

Any comments, advice, hints and tips more than welcome

Hi Mal.
Cheers,,yes the engine looks "right" now with the lighter grey reduction gear.
These P47's look really spectacular in the gloss black dont they? Makes we want to build a Defiant or night fighter Hurri. They would go nicely with my black Mossie.
Going to work for a couple of weeks starting tomorrow,so Im sure I'll spot more areas that need looking at on the P47 with fresh eyes before I Alclad it.I still need to pick up some polished alli as Ive only got white and dark at the moment.Seen a couple of nice kits on Hannants so I might order them with the Alclad and hopefully they will be delivered for when I come back.
I am on the lookout for a Razorback version of this as well.Got my eyes on a very different Spitfire on Ebay as well
