The pictures were taken with a German Reel camara dated 1942, give it a break.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. By saying what I said, I meant "hey, those pictures look cool!" "I really would like to see better quality ones."
I did not know they were intentionally taken with an older camera. Sorry for upsetting you, Harrison. That was not my intent.

Good pics, machine gunner must be fun, except for the carrying part, I understand they're pretty heavy. How many members in your reenactment group?

There are 20 members in my reenactment group. But there was about 400 guys at this reenactment. The gun is light at first but once the action starts, it weighs ya down big time.
Howd ya guess i was a lefty?? It does fire blanks, but its a real MG42. The shell ejection doesnt bug me at all, it shoots out of the bottom. Except for the fact that I put my hand there once and it shot the cartridge right threw the bottom of my hand. It hit the bone, but didnt break it. We had to pull the shell out with plyers.

The camera isn't the issue, it's the way you speak to people (for want of a better word)

Never mind the attitude problem, I would like somebody to explain the urge to 're-enact' the waffen ss... what exactly are you 're-enacting'? Malmedy?

Well...SOMEBODY needs to be the bad guys :-) .....
The camera issue isn't the black and white, it's that the images are kinda pixilated from being compressed, or something....

Henk,
Although the impression I portray: 1.SS LSSAH was at Malmedy and was responsible for the Malmedy Massacre. We do not intend on ever reenacting such a attrocity. In fact, Waffen SS units were probobly the hardest, most ferocious fighting divisions in the war. We portray the elite fighting force, nothing more, nothing less. We dont go out and set up concentration camps or do any kind of raping or anything. Nor are we some kind of Nazi Malitia. Its for the sake of preserving history. I hope you can understand.

Hi Henk,
That's almost exactly what I said to my wife last night.
harrison,
Allied soldiers wern't just killedby the SS, many were murdered after being taken prisoner and we know of many other atrocities right through WW2.
They were fanatics. I would think with what's going on in the world these days, hero worshiping fanatics of any type is not a good thing.

Harrison, first of all, thanks for sharing the pics, if you get a chance, i'd like to see more (in color if possible

). I'd echo the comments about the MG42 - a good number of years ago, I spent a couple of days firing (and running around) with an MG3 (the 'modern' version of the MG42) - not perhaps as bad as the 'Gimpy' but a tricky little bugger nonetheless..
I do share some of the 'concerns' over the reenactment thing as well, however, with the attention to detail that many put into it, the reenactment groups do help provide us with good reference material...
Vic, please, - take it outside...Jim

What do you mean out of the bottom? Isn't the ejection port on the right? I've never fired one of these, but I had a look at a Pakistani-made version of the MG3 when we overran a Tiger police post.

We had to pull the shell out with plyers.
I can sympathise. During basic, we'd be paired off on the firing line, and one guy had to stand by with a fatigue cap to catch the spent shells as they flew out of the shooter's T56 (Chinese AK). If you dropped any, an instructor would make you pick it up immediately and force you to close your bare fist over it. Everybody ended up with bad blisters eventually, and you still had to shoot a tight group the next day.
Anyway, what do y'all do at these reenactments? Do you have a battle planned out?

Jim, no offence but forums are for dicussion, I made a point for others to coment on.
I've got no problem with reenactment, I'm pointing out that the SS is a very imotive subject same as the swastika being banned in many countries or like the brittish journalist who has just been imprisoned just for saying the holocaust never happened.
If I was into reenactment, I wouldn't mind portraying a hard fighting force but concidering what the SS was renowned for I wouldn't carry their insignia.
People from some countries could also be very upset.
Just something to think about

If I recall, and I freely admit to a failing memory, and not being an expert on anything --- especially the German army equipment in WW2, but the MG 42 links came out of the bottom, and the shells came out of the side....
Of course I'll find the website I read that, in about 3 months from now when I'm looking for something else.....

The ejected cartridges are not a big problem with being left (or right) handed. The MG42 is fired on a tri or bipod, or leant on a ledge or shoulder. The stock is pressed in your shoulder, and your 'spare' hand grips the stock. Your arm is not in the way of the exiting cartridges, like it would be if you hold and fire a (semi-auto) rifle.
The only problem for a lefty firing the MG42 (or MG34 for that matter) wouldd be feeding the ammo belt himself.
Oh, BTW, my earlier question with regards to SS re-enactment was not a dig per-se, but a question to open up a debate about re-enacting such sensitive issues... I feel it's still much to do with the time passed. nobody questions the motives of a Confederate re-enactor..

.
Cheers
Henk
